Combined Agents of America LLC reported that at its quarterly board meeting held Nov. 15-17 in Austin, Texas, member agencies gathered to share knowledge, discuss industry issues, review its relationships with insurance carriers, and assess CAA operations.
“A key benefit to CAA membership is the sharing of knowledge among member agencies,” said Jerry Boles, CAA chairman and president of Grona Boles & Martin Insurance & Financial Services, San Antonio. “Due to the impacts of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita on our independent insurance industry, discussion heavily focused on the impacts to specific CAA members, the oil and gas market, and overall emergency preparedness of our members.”
Lum C. Edwards, Jr., president for J. S. Edwards and Sherlock Insurance Agency Inc., Beaumont, shared a detailed account of his agency’s preparedness for and response to Hurricane Rita. Edwards’ agency continued to operate primarily from a remote location while also maintaining a Beaumont location under a temporarily erected roadside tent. Outlining lessons learned, Edwards urged members to develop their own emergency response plans.
Kicking off with a golf tournament at Falconhead Golf Club, the three-day agenda also comprised presentations by Suretec Insurance Company, IIAT, The Republic Group, Safeco Insurance Companies, and a review of House Bill 7 by Texas Mutual Insurance Co. Members specializing in the oil and gas industry also held a roundtable to address challenges in providing appropriate coverage to customers.
