Guns in Locked Cars at Workplace OK under Louisiana Senate Bill

Employees in Louisiana would have the right to keep a legally owned firearm locked in their car in a parking lot at their place of work, if the House goes along with a bill approved 28-4 in the state Senate.

Senator Joe McPherson's measure states that the employer or property owner would not be liable for any damages if the gun is misused on the property.

McPherson's proposal would not apply to places where state or federal law prohibits gun possession or to cars owned or leased by the employer and driven by the employee.

The law also would not apply to cars on parking lots where access to the property is restricted through the use of a fence, security station, signs or other means, if the employer provides an unrestricted parking area nearby.
