The West Baton Rouge Parish School Board has settled a yearlong Hurricane Gustav claim negotiations with AXIS Surplus Insurance Co.
Gary Pennington, a representative with Jansen International, said last week the insurance company will pay about $850,000 worth of hurricane damage claims. He said initial negotiations began at $400,000.
School Superintendent David Corona said Hurricane Gustav’s damage to the school district in 2008 amounted to about $1.5 million.
He said the district is still negotiating with the Federal Emergency Management Agency about remaining repair costs.
Corona said he expects FEMA to reimburse about 90 percent of most expenses.
Pennington said AXIS would not cover claims for “wind-driven rain” damage.
