The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) Education Foundation will award $30,000 in academic scholarships to 15 university students in ceremonies during November. To date, the Foundation has awarded more than $280,000 in academic funding to Texas students and universities.
“Funding for the ICT Education Foundation continues to grow and this is good news for students taking insurance and risk management classes at Texas colleges and universities,” said Mark Hanna, a spokesman for the Insurance Council of Texas. “These scholarships demonstrate a commitment from the industry to reward the next generation of insurance company employees and agents for their hard work and academic achievements.”
Baylor University scholarship recipients are Cameron Leitch, Megan Kelly, Veronica Schlachter, Zach Reece and Garrett Standfield.
The University of Texas at Austin scholarship recipients are Jennifer Thelen, Sanchi Srivastava, Jessica Allen, Scott Langer and Bo Shi.
ICT Education Foundation scholarship recipients at the University of North Texas are Christopher Frazier, Desiree Davault, Tarah Davis, Cary Cates and Lekorie Pearson.
Baylor University scholarship recipient Cameron Leitch explained why he wants to enter the field of insurance. “The insurance industry provides protection for the things that people love and care for the most,” Leitch said. “I want to be a part of keeping people and their possessions safe.”
ICT’s scholarship program began in 2002 and to date more than 150 students have been awarded scholarships. The Insurance Council of Texas Education Foundation remains committed to helping students in higher education learn more of the intricacies of insurance through the financial assistance of scholarships such as these.
Funding for the Foundation comes from sponsorships for the Mid-Year Property and Casualty Insurance Symposium.
