Texas is a valued policy state for fire. I don’t understand why they had to come up with a list of contents to get their full policy limits. State Farm should have just cut a check for the full limits on building and contents.

I had a customer with a total fire loss with Travelers. On the Personal Property, they sent out an adjustor to make a list of the belongings and then sent it to a vendor to compile the data and value. The claim drug on and the customer became dissatisfied about it so we prevailed that they should just cut the man a check for the limit and get the claim resolved. There was no problem with Loss of Use or the dwelling value, but the Pers Property was an issue. Sometimes there are too many cooks in the kitchen on a loss and a company may have 3 adjustors working different parts of the claim so the customer gets confused about the process.

Our place burned in the Glencoe fire 4 AUG 2012. We lost all but the house. We are insured with Oklahoma Farm Bureau. They assigen an adjuster from the far western part of the state (Woodward–four hours away). Are we being mis-served by having an adjuster with no local buy-in? Can we insist that an agent from our local community be used to handle our claim? We are having a hard time understanding the low valuations placed on two pump houses that we just recently completed and were depreciated 50% These structures were fully framed and insulated and finished to the same standards as the inside of our home. Our pond pump/bath house we finished just this summer, the house main well house was finished 1 year ago and is fully finished and insulated with a standard composite roof construction.

You may be with the wrong carrier Robert. This is not a fair settlement offer. Even if it is ACV which it shouldn’t be, the recently completed pump houses shouldn’t depreciate that much. If you have your receipts from construction, you should hold their feet to the fire. Also, many companies use independents to look at their claims. Some are less than competent and often send the wrong appraisal to the company. Your agent should be looking out for you better than this.
