There are 3 reasons why Rick Perry likes this faster speed limit. Uh, the first is, hmmm. Well, the second. Dangit, the third. What’s the first one again?

Texas likes its roads like it likes its women…fast.

Actually, all joking aside, I like this move. I think more interstates can go to 80 or 85MPH. People do need to stop clogging up the left lane, though. I don’t think Texas drivers are the only ones that need taught that lesson.

Don’t come to Nebraska, Captain Planet. The left lane is all about the Sunday Drivers that like their cruise control set at 70 when the limit is 75.

2 years in West Germany (yes it was a long time ago)on the autobahn with NO speed limit, just a speed MINIMUM, the key is to pass a law that YOU MUST CLEAR TRAFFIC TO THE REAR…. if you get rear ended it is YOUR fault…. amazing how effective that was.

It would change American drivers behaviour very quickly.

Rural interstates are the fastest, safest, most fuel efficient rural roads. For example, Texas’ rural interstate fatality rate (1.25) was far lower than other rural roads’ rates (up to 4.95 deaths per 100M travel miles in 2009)!

Interstates can easily handle higher speeds due to safety features like interchanges that eliminate deadly side impacts, barriers against head-on crashes, etc.

Germany doesn’t shackle motorists with speed limits on rural Autobahns because the roads are so safe. Even though Germany is the crossroads of Europe, and hosts drivers from restrictive nations (including U.S. military personnel and families), the safety record is quite impressive.

Simple physics provides the best safety. Hand-wringing and radar-gun slinging is pure political placebo.
