Investigation Ongoing in Huge Texas Highway Wreck

November 26, 2012

Authorities in Southeast Texas continue to investigate a 100-vehicle highway pileup on Thanksgiving Day that killed two people.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Chuck Havard tells KFDM-TV that investigators will determine whether any drivers face charges.

The massive Thanksgiving morning wreck occurred on Interstate 10 southwest of Beaumont, about 80 miles east of Houston, on Texas’ Gulf Coast. A crash on eastbound I-10 is believed to have started a chain reaction that left cars and trucks piled on top of each other. Heavy fog blanketed I-10 at the time of the accident.

Two people died and more than 80 were injured. Twelve people were listed in serious condition as of Thursday night.

A Beaumont spokeswoman tells KFDM that two children and one adult were transferred to hospitals in nearby Houston. Hospitals have released others injured in the crash.
