This is bullying, no question. As for the school adminstrators who want this lawsuit dropped because “it make the school look bad” – wake up & put a stop to this bullying. Bullying makes the school look bad, & the harm it does to those who are bullied never truly goes away. I know – I’ve been there as a victim – the scars remain forever.
Kids can be really mean and some will bully others who don’t fit their group. Nowadays, with Facebook, it spreads very quickly and is twice as bad as the school rumor mill in the past. My question is where the supervision was. Coaches are responsible for the conduct of their team and this coach apparently didn’t know what was going on at all.
The school can only do so much, though it doesn’t sound like they did a lot based on this article. The bigger issue is the parents that can’t teach their kids basic manners and compassion. If my parents had ever been told by the school or anyone else or found me making fun of someone’s clothes or disability, I wouldn’t have had any free time for the next 10 years. Their opinion would have been that I had too much free time and there was always plenty of work to be done. Of course, that was after I would have been marched over to the girl’s house to apologize. Now a days, everyone is a prima dona!
Bullying? This activity was CRIMINAL. This should be handled as an assault, due to her being restrained. Does distribution of Child Porn required fully undress? I think not.
These girls should face criminal charges for assault, pornography, and anything else the prosecutor can make stick! It’s time for people to be RESPONSIBLE for their actions! Parents, teach your kids, kids listen to your parents… Let the public stand up and MAKE people accountable with more than just a slap on the wrist…!
I detest what these kids did to that young girl and think nothing about punishing them as seriously as the laws allow. And no I was not ‘specifically’ bullied, I fought my own battles and when being ‘bullied’ just gave it back as good as I got.That’s how we dealt with it back then. But with the technology we have today and the way this behavior can spread, I say stomp down on it HARD!

But honestly, we as parents HAVE the DUTY to teach them right from wrong, and in my day as a kid being taught ‘RIGHT’ INCLUDED compassion, empathy, and sympathy…. We were TAUGHT by our parents to ‘stick up’ for the ‘underdog’…. not TROUNCE on them! Did I always listen to my parents NO, did I EVER listen, yes.. and I fought many battles WITH the underdog because of it! And I have learned well compassion, empathy and sympathy…. And I strive each and every day to make sure my kids learn them too! Because that is my DUTY to them, and to our society… So that in the end they will fight the good fights, not the bad ones….
Filing a suit does not make the accused parties guilty. Criminal charges, where did you find proof before you ranted on about what they should do to them? That is shallow.
Everyone deserves their day in court, but if it is found that the girl’s rights were violated the persons responsible should be punished….to the extent determined by the facts of the case.
My only fear is that this will get swept under the rug like most cases. It’s sad and horrible. Parents need to start being parents instead of friends. Growing up the most we got was an extra shove on the playground or always being picked last for a team. The power of social media is crazy. In a second this poor kid’s life was ruined and scarred.
But some crazy lawyer is going to side with the bullies (for lack of better terms) saying they are just kids and don’t know any better and they have rights too and charging them would be a violation of their rights and will ruin their lives…etc.
