The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) named Wes Becknell, business development officer at AFCO in La Vernia, as its Young Associate of the Year.
The award recognizes a young associate member of IIAT who demonstrates exceptional service to the industry, the association and community. Associate members include insurance companies, general agencies, automation vendors and other businesses serving the independent agency community.
Becknell began his career in the insurance industry as a producer in Seguin. He holds his CIC and CSRM designations and supports AFCO clients across the central, southern and western areas of the Texas marketplace.
In 2013, Becknell served on IIAT’s Young Professionals Advisory Council where he advised IIAT’s Board of Directors and staff about issues important to the IIAT’s membership, as well as representing young sales professionals in service planning and execution.
He participates annually in IIAT’s Community Service Project and is serving a third term as president of the Greater La Vernia Chamber of Commerce. Becknell has also served on the La Vernia Lions Club Board of Directors and is a deacon at the La Vernia Church of Christ. “Wes is only the second recipient of the Young Associate of the Year Award, and like the first recipient, he is setting a high-standard for future candidates,” said IIAT President Marit Peters.
