Ethics Today, Charity Motorcycle Rally Kick-off AAMGA Annual Meeting in Orlando

A day-long presentation and discussion about Ethics in Today’s Insurance Environment, sponsored by the R. Max Williamson Chair of Insurance and Business Ethics, kicked-off the American Association of Managing General Agents April 30 to May 5, 79th Annual Meeting at the Grande Lakes Resort in Orlando, Fla.

More than two-dozen motorcycle enthusiasts met at 11:30 a.m. to hit-the-road for Daytona Beach, Fla. to participate in the AAMGA Annual Charity Motorcycle Rally. The proceeds of the afternoon ride with the “Managing General Angels” will go to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation in New Canaan, Conn., to aid the organization in efforts to find a cure for multiple myeloma. The Managing General Angels, founded in 2003 by Bernd G. Heinze, AAMGA executive director, is now an annual tradition every year at the conference.

A world-class team of experts, including Dr. Bruce Weinstein, CNN Ethics Analyst; Michael Jones, a renowned insurance ethics expert; and Ernest Csiszar, PCIA president and former South Carolina Insurance Department Commissioner, will lead discussions at 8 a.m. Sat. April 30. Their topic will be “Ethics in the Wholesale Insurance marketplace, sponsored by the R. Max Williamson Chair.

Morning and afternoon events on Sunday, May 1, feature AAMGA University Day programs to serve the educational and informational needs of members with an outstanding selection of high-quality educational courses presented. The first course beginning Sunday at 8 a.m. will be on “Current Events.” A few topics addressed include broker contingent compensation suits, World Trade Center loss settlement and TRIA status.

A second course, also beginning Sunday at 8 a.m. is titled, “Family Business Strategic Planning,” sponsored by the Wesley C. Duesenberg Sr. Chair of Family Business.” It will feature a presentation on “Transitioning the Family Business for Success Across Generations: The Family Challenge,” with Craig E. Aronoff, Ph.D., principal of the Family Business Consulting Group.

Two Sunday afternoon sessions begin at 1 p.m. Course three will be “Risk Management Plan,” with Mike Jones, president of Mike Jones & Assoc.; and a concurrent session will be on “Family Business Strategic Planning, in which Aronoff will discuss “Transitioning the Family Business for Success Across Generations: Ownership and Financial Challenges.”

“Lloyds View of Challenges Facing the U.S. Insurance Market” will be presented during a May 3 breakfast session by keynote speaker, Lord Levene of Portsoken KBE, chairman of Lloyd’s, London. A presentation by Joe Hutelmyer, AAMGA president will follow, at which he will discuss the state of the association. Also this morning, AAMGA will recognize members for their service to AAMGA, including senior vice presidents and committee chairs.
