IIAG Slates Educational Events to Meet Georgia CE Requirements

September 30, 2005

A series of educational events, being sponsored by the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia to enable members to meet new state continuing education requirements have been scheduled in October.

A new Georgia Insurance Department rule, enacted last year, requires Georgia insurance agents to renew their licenses Nov. 1, instead of the previously staggered dates. Even though Nov. 1 is the renewal deadline, as in the past, agents have until Dec. 31 to meet their continuing education requirements.

IIAG is sponsoring a “Small and Rural Agents Conference Oct. 7 and 8 in Macon, Ga. which will provide participants with 10 hours of continuing education credit. The registration fee is $95, which includes breakfast, lunch, reception, dinner, exhibits and the Meet Market. A special $50 day-rate is available for students attending classes only on Oct. 7.

More than 30 companies and exhibitors will participate in “The Meet Market,” a job-fair event which offers agents an opportunity to meet with companies seeking agents. Information is available by contacting IIAG at (800) 878-6487 ext. 101, or visit www.iiag.org.

The Ted Carleton Education Foundation, which operates the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia’s education program, has a variety of instructor-lead and on-line classes which have been available since January and continue through the end of the year.

“A Blue Print for Gaining Traction With Prospects,” presented by Mark Satterfield, will be a key event during the Oct. 20-21 second annual Ted Carleton Sales Symposium sponsored by the Young Agents Committee of the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia at the Magnolia Manor Hotel in Tucker, Ga. This year’s even will feature nine hours of continuing education, including ethics.

Satterfield, founder of Gentle Rain Marketing, has held executive positions with Atari, PepsiCo and Kraft Foods. Satterfield was Emory University director of Career Services for the Graduate School of Business.

The symposium will include an ethics seminar by Infinity University, Oct. 20 reception, and Oct. 21 continental breakfast. The registration fee for Young Agents (under 40) is $95 and for all others, $125. For information log on to www.iiag.org or call IIAG at (770) 458-0093 ext. 102.

The Georgia Insurance Department has revised its regulation related to insurance counselors to allow those with Accredited Adviser in Insurance designations to obtain a counselors license without taking the examination.

IIAG suggested the change and Commissioner Oxendine included it in a recent regulatory revision. A public hearing was took place in August and the commissioner issued an order finalizing the amendment, which became effective in September.

IIAG has structured its AAI program differently, so agents seeking an AAI designation can complete the program by taking three segments of three consecutive days, for nine days during the year. The first two modules have already been held, while the third will be held Oct. 26 to 28 in Doraville, Ga. AAI 83, Agency Operations and Sales Management, will be presented at IIAG’s main office. Each day represents seven hours of continuing education credits for licensed property and casualty agents.

The combined cost for the three-day session is $450 for IIAG members and $550 for non-members. Participants may also elect to attend only one or two days, at a cost of $180 per day for members and $200 for non-members.

The October series will be taught by Jim Bryan, the retired president of one of the largest and most successful independent agencies in Georgia. Bryan has a tremendous amount of “real-world” experience, with more than 25 years of insurance production and management experience. Bryan has also served on IIAG’s Commercial Technical Lines Committee.

Paul Saye, IIAG education coordinator, said that with new regulations taking effect this year, the benefits of having the prestigious AAI designation are now compelling. Information on the program is available from Saye, at 800.878.6487 x104 or psaye@iiag.org.
