Gov. Sonny Perdue announced the award of $40 million in federal homeland security grants to Georgia for allocation to eligible communities around the state.
“With the assistance of our federal partners, we continue to do everything we can to keep our state and nation safe,” Perdue said. “These awards will allow us to better protect our citizens and fight the war on terror. Over the next 60 days we will be notifying individual award recipients.”
The awards for fiscal year 2007 will be earmarked for five separate grant programs: Urban Area Security Initiative, State Homeland Security Grant Program, Law Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Program, Metropolitan Medical Response System, and Citizens Corps Program.
