Rumor has it he is suing for $1,332 so after his lawyer takes his 50% he will be left with $666.

Would have been a good day to call in sick. Or perhaps he could have just worn the sticker upside down so it would say 999 – like Herman Cain.

I agree with Youngin. It would be in the company’s best interest to settle this case. With the information given in this artical, it seems as thou the company was in the wrong.

See The Other Point of View, there ARE cases where some people that consider themselves “fiscally conservitive” will agree when a company has done wrong and that the plantiff was wronged.

I would have refused to wear it, too. Could they have just let him wear 667-1? Management is surprising sometimes. This is in a very conservative area of GA. I hear the cash register ringing.

Where this situation is easily accommodated without inconveniencing the company, exempting the employee from this requirement for one day should have been a slam dunk. There must be more to this story or the Pliant Company must hire some incredibly ignorant managers. It they maintain their position on this perhaps they should rename their company to the “ComPliant Company”.

I suspect there was more than meets the eye, such as other job performance considerations.

Bob, I am a Christian and you sound like an idiot. Apparently you haven’t been in church much. We are still a Christian nation, much to the disdain of people of you ilk. I would suggest you get on your knees and ask God to forgive you and pray everyday, you will feel much better.

We have never been a Christian nation. What is this obsession with the notion that we are a Christian nation? In 1797, Preisdent Adams signed the Treaty of Tripoli and the treaty was ratified by the senate in a unanimous vote. The treaty stated “the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.”

Look it up. While you’re at it, read the First Amendment and then read the rest of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Federalist Papers and tell me where you get the notion that this is a Chritsian nation.

100% correct TOPOV. As I am fond of quoting, “You can’t have freedom OF relegion without freedom FROM religion”

Bob, don’t you hate it when someone trys and preach to you, saying that your religous beliefs are wrong? So why would you turn around and do the same thing to others?

What does the United States government have to do with a person’s Christian beliefs? He will not wear the number 666 and that is what this is about. It is not about the Declaration of Independence or the Treaty of Tripoli. It is about a company being insensitive to an employee’s beliefs and firing the employee and paying out a sum of money for a badge.

I too am a Christian and I, too, would have refused to wear the sticker. Whether or not you believe, they should (and you should) respect his right to do so. He should not have been forced to comply or be suspended – but to his credit, he took the suspension. We have lost sight of respecting one another’s beliefs, that is, unless it is “politically correct” to respect those beliefs.

This is totally insane! I have a hard time believing the guy was fired for refusing to wear the sticker. If his performance wasn’t an issue- I hope he sues the crap out of this company. Compnies these days take advantage of their employees and are quick to remind them that someone else will gladly take their job. I hope this company gets what it has coming to it…..

I agree with M and M regarding some companies taking advantage of their employees. If his performance was an issue they should have fired him for that. Otherwise they should have counted themselves lucky to have a God fearing man on their team. So what if he didn’t want to wear their sticker….my impression is he wouldn’t want to displease God by stealing company property or standing by while someone else does. As for just taking the day off; his ethics probably stopped him from doing that –company depends on him and he reported to work as expected. Since he brought the concern to mgmt in advance and thought it was resolved, I feel it was wrong to make him chose between his faith and 3 days suspension. He agreed to the suspension — so why in God’ green earth did they need to fire him? Makes we wonder if they might be using intimidation tactics to keep the rest of the crew in line. If they were making an example of him, they went too far.

Question for the Christian defenders of this guy. What if it had been a Muslim who refused to wear the sticker due to a strict religious code of modesty (not wearing lettering or symbols)?

    Go!

Whatever the faith, whatever the reason if you have good employees and you can accomodate their needs without a problem, why wouldn’t you? Training new people cost money, especially in this economy. 666 days without an accident — sounds like they have careful employees, if nothing else.

Unfortunate communication between EE & employer? I think it is GREAT this company has gone 666 days without an accident! That’s almost 2 years. I’ve been in the insurance biz since 1978 and have had only one WC claim when my CSR was raped in the early 1980’s. That was shatering! I think it is ridiculous to make 666 a seminal number: by the company or the plaintif/employee. 666 accident free days should be celebrated rather than reviled!

my first concern… why 3 days of suspension for not wearing that sticker? why not have accommodated him by giving him the day off, because the next day it would be 667… there has to be another reason for the firing than just for wearing a sticker… another reason for the susp of 3 days… if it was my company allowed him to believe in his beliefs, have either not worried that he did not put the number on his uniform or have taken a vacation day…

The guy who got fired is probably better off…working for a plastics factory has got to be hazardous to your health. They may be accident free, but what kind of crap are they breathing in?
Of course, given the alleged reason for his employment termination, it sounds like the damage is already done. Even their HR people are fried!

I would like to know if those who ridicule this person for his beliefs would still do so if the company changed its name to the Kansas Kandy Kane Co. and made everyone wear the initials on their white apron & hat. How is it that with all of the “respect for diversity” that is religously shoved down our throats, it’s only the heritage and values espoused by Christians that is demonized??? This is not a “Christian Nation” in the way that Iran or Vatican City is; however, to belittle or deny the basis of the values and beliefs of the overwhelming majority of people since the beginning of this country is deliberately narrow-minded and self serving.
And that, as much as anything else, will be our demise.

LF, I agree with most of your post but have to call you on your comment “it’s only the heritage and values espoused by Christians that is demonized”.

I don’t know how the conservative talking heads get off perpetuating this myth that somehow Christianity is under attack in this country. Christianity continues to hold a special place in our culture not enjoyed by other religions and will continue to for the rest of my lifetime. Atheists are the most hated “religious” group in this country, above Muslims and Jews. Their numbers may be rising slowly but they are still a fringe group. They are unimportant. Just ignore them.

Maybe you’re too young to see the contrast; but after nearly 60 years, here’s what I see. A “popular” culture, backed up by self-serving politicians, that will defend a Crusifix in urine as art, but sees a nativity scene as offensive. A legal system that can misconstrue a line from a personal letter into a Constitutional obligation to expung religeous speech, observances and values from the venue which was created “…(of, by,&for the people)”.
At the core of it all, I believe, is the lust for power through intimidation; and like a death by a thousand cuts, modern Christians have been the biggest & easiest mark.

Exadjuster – your phone number isn’t 666 it is an area code, with three numbers and then four numbers. Therefore you are not showing the sign or symbol of satan. In regards to the article and the “sticker” – the company could have allowed to forgo the sticker for one day or the employee could have taken a sick day/ vacation day / PTO. Lots of solutions that could have been used and NOT result in someone being fired and lawsuits flying. The only people to come out on top are the the lawyers.
