What does the United States government have to do with a person’s Christian beliefs? He will not wear the number 666 and that is what this is about. It is not about the Declaration of Independence or the Treaty of Tripoli. It is about a company being insensitive to an employee’s beliefs and firing the employee and paying out a sum of money for a badge.

This is totally insane! I have a hard time believing the guy was fired for refusing to wear the sticker. If his performance wasn’t an issue- I hope he sues the crap out of this company. Otherwise they should have counted themselves lucky to have a God fearing man on their team. So what if he didn’t want to wear their sticker….my impression is he wouldn’t want to displease God by stealing company property or standing by while someone else does. As for just taking the day off; his ethics probably stopped him from doing that –company depends on him and he reported to work as expected. Since he brought the concern to mgmt in advance and thought it was resolved, I feel it was wrong to make him chose between his faith and 3 days suspension. He agreed to the suspension — so why in God’ green earth did they need to fire him? Makes we wonder if they might be using intimidation tactics to keep the rest of the crew in line. If they were making an example of him, they went too far.

I’ve been in the insurance biz since 1978 and have had only one WC claim when my CSR was raped in the early 1980’s. That was shatering! I think it is ridiculous to make 666 a seminal number: by the company or the plaintif/employee. 666 accident free days should be celebrated rather than reviled!
my first concern… why 3 days of suspension for not wearing that sticker? why not have accommodated him by giving him the day off, because the next day it would be 667… there has to be another reason for the firing than just for wearing a sticker… another reason for the susp of 3 days… if it was my company allowed him to believe in his beliefs, have either not worried that he did not put the number on his uniform or have taken a vacation day…

How is it that with all of the “respect for diversity” that is religously shoved down our throats, it’s only the heritage and values espoused by Christians that is demonized??? This is not a “Christian Nation” in the way that Iran or Vatican City is; however, to belittle or deny the basis of the values and beliefs of the overwhelming majority of people since the beginning of this country is deliberately narrow-minded and self serving.

Christianity continues to hold a special place in our culture not enjoyed by other religions and will continue to for the rest of my lifetime. Atheists are the most hated “religious” group in this country, above Muslims and Jews. Their numbers may be rising slowly but they are still a fringe group. They are unimportant. Just ignore them.

A “popular” culture, backed up by self-serving politicians, that will defend a Crusifix in urine as art, but sees a nativity scene as offensive. A legal system that can misconstrue a line from a personal letter into a Constitutional obligation to expung religeous speech, observances and values from the venue which was created “…(of, by,&for the people)”.
At the core of it all, I believe, is the lust for power through intimidation; and like a death by a thousand cuts, modern Christians have been the biggest & easiest mark.
