It’s the good old philosophy that everyone should do without, except when it comes to me/my constituents, then it’s show me the money!

Did he worry about “we must ensure that disaster relief is paid for” after Katrina? Wasn’t it he who stated “needed right away?”

When my house was lost in a fire no one came to my rescue but my insurance company and the fire department. I did not get additional money from anyone. I pay taxes for the fire department and road use and pay premiums for homeowners insurance. Why do these States need millions in relief to rebuild communities? I can see the need to rebuild roads, utilities etc but each State should have catastrophe planning and insurance to pay for these issues. Did these States not have a “rainy day” fund or plan B? Why aren’t they setting up contracts with local company’s to fix their problems instead of relying on the Gov’t? No individual health care so why individual relief for catastrophic events?

I think comparing the response and aid given for a personal house fire to that needed for a mass destruction across the tri-state area affecting millions of people and entire communities isn’t quite apples to apples. A natural disaster of that magnitude requires both State and Federal assistance–a house fire does not. It’s an entirely different scenario than insurance response to the P&C damages for an individual.
