While requiring higher limits certainly makes sense I really do not think that it will make any difference in the number of uninsured drivers as our Agency receives a minimum of 10 calls per day from people who are not currently insured and many of these have been driving without Insurance for over 90 days.
There are many that do have financial situations such as job layoffs, medical issues, death of a spouse etc..however a large number or the majority simply refuse to be responsible financially and could care less if they injure someone or damage someones property in fact just this week we had an Insured hit head-on by an uninsured driver who as it turns out has had at least 2 DUI convictions and multiple accidents in the past 2 years.
my wholepoint is why are our elected officials allowing this to go on? and why is there not stonger regulation of our current laws and part of this I can answer…These people who supposedly can’t afford Insurance due to DUI offenses,a poor driving history etc.. hire an attorney who somehow manages to get their license reinstated.
Our Elected officials need to stop babysitting those who make bad decisions and make them pay for their crimes. If you do not have Insurance revoke their license and after a 2nd offense 90 days in jail period.I would bet that many reading this do not realize that our State Welfare program pays the insurance premiums for many people on welfare.

Never knew welfare paid for your insurance. With that food utilities, and rent, why am i working? No, i do think everyone that drives a vehicle should have insurance. The state is installing a new system so they will know instantly whether u have insureance or not. 1st offence driving without is $100. fine 90 days loss of the priviledge, 2nd i think is 500 and 1 year (i said i think), and it costs u 75 bucks to reinstate ur lisence. A dollar a month isn’t unresonable, but if ur one of those that thinks ur above the law it can go to 100 and u’ll still b on the roads without insurance.

In NY liability is statutory and monitored by the state. If your policy is cancelled for non payment the carrier notifies the DMV direct and electronically. You are fined for each day you go without coverage and then license is suspended until fines are paid OR you turn in your plates and cannot drive your vehicle for the same amount of days you went without insurance.

Sounded absurd when first introduced but ultimately proved to be a deterrent for those who got their insurance to get their plate and then never paid another insurance bill.

From a public safety standpoint, all is working well.

The state minimum is still 25/50/10, which I find to be EXTREMELY low. Property damage alone does not cover close to ANY new car.

WV is installing a real time system n ’14. if ur pulled over for something the police will know if u have insurance right then. which is a good thing for people worrying someone is driving uninsured. bad thing is it’ll be a tool for them to have a reason to pull u over. state miniumum i believe (don’t quote me)is 20/40/10. unless ur crashing into someone with a 10 yr. old vehicle, ur going to be sued. A 50 yr old can get this coverage 4 about $38 a month, under 50 make about $112. now when 9 out of 10 of your neighbors are making minimum wage, float this with elec., water/sewer, rent and the luxury of a phone or t.v., juggle around what ur paying. Not a good thing for us trying to raise a family and be productive citizens.

We live in a state that is poor as ..well u know. Cost of living is low, thats why u only make minimum wage. This is what ur always told. here go the idiots in charleston making sure ur on assistance for everything, lord forbid u can actually save $5.00 dollars a month. Of course the insurance co. would like this, more greed for the pocket. Whetzel county had the highest rate of car/deer crashes in the state, hell probably the nation. All of a sudden CWD (cronic waste disease) hit the western part of the county, POW! hunderds of deer dead in days. Then it’s gone, no sickness east, south , north in PA. and it’s gone where it started. Car/deer crashes wwway down, isn’t it amazing how this works. You’ll pay more, pockets will b lined and foodstamps come on the 1st of the month!!
