Federal Judge Orders Kentucky to Recognize Out-of-State Gay Marriages

    I’ve come to the conclusion that our government is no longer a democracy but rather a government ruled by kings that sit on a bench and throw out laws that voters have placed in our state constitution. Why should the laws in another state be dictated to us. It seems that Kentucky voters are being told now that we have no right to make our own laws but that we have to accept the laws put forth in a few other states. That is grossly unfair. Regardless of what the issue here is, it’s not fair that a state has to throw out a constitutional law, that was voted on by the people, because it does not agree with another state. That is absurd. This takes away states rights totally.

      So, if I was heterosexual and married in another state, would KY acknowledge my marriage? I was actually married in Mexico, so does that mean I am not legally married in America? Why do you want to deny the right of marriage to an entire class of people based on nothing buy your bias?

      Virgil, I think you are mistaking a Constitutional Democracy for “…a government ruled by kings.” The thing about a Constitutional Democracy is that a majority can’t simply vote away the rights of a minority. That’s why they are called rights. It’s right there in the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment. You should check it out. Actually, let me save you the trouble of have to resort to the Google Machine: “No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

        Well Libby, when I visit an insurance website would it be too much to ask to see only that, I-N-S-U-R-A-N-C-E related topics?

        But then again I see no one answered the first question which was what does this have to do with I-N-S-U-R-A-N-C-E.
