I tried using Uber X recently. We requested a ride, a guy showed up in about 2 minutes, and he drove us 18 miles to our home in the suburbs. We paid him for driving us home. Uber would like for you to believe that our driver “shared” his ride with us. If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you.

Questionnable insurance coverage, questionnable background checks, no regulation, no driver’s license checks. Don’t think I will be using them. Taxi driver’s are not getting rich in any city. They are hard-working individuals who are paid on 1099s and have to pay both sides of their FICA. Wonder how many Uber drivers are getting 1099s? Cab drivers have to keep their vehicles clean, dress neatly, undergo criminal background and license checks. Wait until the first woman gets raped by an Uber driver… end of story. I will continue to pay for regular cabs in the cities I visit.

As a driver everyone should realize we do not work for Uber. Uber is simply a technology app. Both drivers and riders utilize that app. After two weeks I have been bombarded by all my riders about how glad they are about the app and how easy it is to get a ride so quickly. They know who is picking them up, in what car, and what previous riders think of my service through a grading system within the app. We don’t cruise the city like taxi drivers. The Uber app will have and already has so much positive acceptance from what I experience that taxi companies and state agencies will simply have to catch up with technology and give the people what they want. I love driving and enjoy the folks who ride with me. The Uber app simply fills the void in a city where public transportation is simply lacking and the extended wait times and multiple calls to taxi companies are eliminated. I see many more people switching to the Uber app simply because it gives them a service that they can track.
