What happened is unfortunate but the goal of the justice system is not to make sure that every criminal is caught but rather to make sure that everyone is treated properly under the law. This may mean that some people get away with crimes but if even one innocent man goes to jail, the system has failed. Only the jury knows the conditions that day but in a downpour, it is possible that he didn’t know…he should be more aware and I’d like to think that I would notice something like that myself but it’s a court and they have to prove intent.

The system fails all the time, whether it is an innocent person going to jail or a guilty one going free. However, I wouldn’t want to throw the baby out with the bath water. The system we have works quite well most of the time and I refer that to utter chaos. I believe the parents have the right attitude; they are just working with their son to help him move forward.

In this day & age, people no longer take responsibility for their actions. Like our President, they are always looking to pass the blame on to someone else. This law change will help them do just that. Maybe they should have “Leaving the Scene of an Accident” and “Intentionally Leaving the Scene of an Accident”. Either way, in this unfortunate accident, the guy left the scene of an accident.

The law didn’t change. It was being incorrectly enforced.

It was raining hard, the visibility was poor, the a/c was running, the music was going, and the skateboarder fell in the road. The driver is in a large truck and probably thought he was just going over a bump in the road. It is a really sad story, but I don’t think the driver ever saw the teenager.
