Maybe reduce the number of UNinsured?

All this is just feel good legislation anyway. The driver will take out a policy to get the license and registration then just cancel it afterward to get the refunded premium.

Yep! When I moved to Tucson in 2002, I was told that well over half of the cars on the road were uninsured!

What AZ needs is the same system we have here in Texas. Here in Texas, police have access to the insurance database so they can see if the policy is active or not. But its about time that AZ follows what many other states have been doing and requiring a state filing to reinstate your DL. If you have the filing on your policy, and the policy cancels, the company sends another notice to the DMV tolet them know the policy is no longer in force.

Welcome to the 21st century, AZ

As much as I want everyone on the road insured, a 3, 6, and 12 month suspension of the DL and plates takes my customers off the road and my book of business, albeit short term or not. We serve a lot of these customers that come to my office to get insurance for their court date. For many it’s a cycle. Every time they come in, my office makes money. The suspension stops the cycle. Does it take them off the road? Probably not.. these are people who have already established a pattern of breaking the law. Granted, for some the penalty will whip them into compliance which is good for our industry and the public at large. I belive this bill will only make a difference to those who are consciously ‘gaming’ the system. The others are just irresponsible and/or scofflaws who now have no incentive to run into my office to fix the ticket by buying a policy.
