Marijuana should be legal just like any other plant. It can be used for other things besides smoking..

It’s good to know that these are insurable operations and that they are, in the words of the author, becoming more mainstream. This is an important area for some public policy discussions, and it’s encouraging to see the risk management business getting involved.

The cartels would be poorer, our public lands cleaner, and our children safer if we implemented a Personal Use and Cultivation Permit: $100 per year for a dozen plants. Split the proceeds between the States and the Fed.
It’s time to put the cartels out of business.
It’s time to let ordinary Americans grow a little marijuana in their own back yards.

I concur, CC. The real problem is, in addition to the cartels’ interests, law enforcement relies on federal and state $$ to fight the “war-on-some-drugs”. (not to mention the property forfeitures that add to the $$ of the law enforsement departments–their budgets rely on this income stream, too. So there’s really not enough licit money to offset the current profits and funding while it is a black-market commodity.

It’s a shame because only TWO harmful effects of marijuana have ever been discovered:

    1. Marijuana adversely affects long-term memory, and

    2. …um…uh…hmmm…

It is so obvious what is really going on here. The “clinics” are buying dope from illegal drug manufacturers whose real profit is selling or transporting quantity of marijuana to States that do not have “medicinal use” laws. That in itself is a total joke. Cocaine is used as a medicine but i cannot go buy crack legally? Why not, won’t crack cocaine dull pain from chronic illness too? If the cost of indoor marijuana manufacturer averages $800.00 a pound using the B.C. model and the sale price is $2,800.00 retail to the consumer then the wholesale runs say $1,400.00 then isn’t their a financial incentive for Ca. pot dealers to break Federal law by transporting to say Raleigh where a pound of high grade sells for $5,600.00 a piece. Gee, I guess the compassionate growers really are compassionate even to the point of ignoring $4,800.00 per pound profits they can get selling in States without “medicinal laws”. LOL
hope they legalize cocaine soon, crack prices in Raleigh are extreme to say the least.

The fact that we are even discussing the legalization of anything in a free country is insane. Jefferson proclaimed that freedom is at the mercey of the weak and must be revitalized by the blood of patriots every 200 years. We are now 34 years past that point. They better legalize freedom soon or a crap storm is headed for our bedroom fan’s.
