Colorado Forest Service Faces Lawsuits Over Lower North Fork Fire

April 20, 2012

Colorado Forrest Service is reporting as many as nine claims of intent to sue have been filed following the Lower North Fork Fire in March.

Colorado Forrest Service would not release information on who filed the claims.

The Lower North Fork Fire started as a prescribed burn, but got out of control, according to reports.

The Lower North Fork wildfire in Jefferson County forced the evacuation of more than 900 homes.

If the Forest Service is found to be responsible for starting the fire, under a Colorado law, which limits liability for the state and its taxpayers, the state would only be liable to pay up to $600,000 total.
