    Okay, ridiculous! It’s not those who have one drink that are running things and people over. It’s those that are having 8-10 drinks. I say, raise the limit back to .10 and if you blow over that, mandatory jail sentence and steeper fines (perhaps triple or quadruple what they are now). That is how you are going to deter drunk driving.

      Captain, I would go further than that. These limits are just excuses for lazy cops to set up more checkpoints to harass and delay innocent people who are not a threat to anybody, while truly dangerous behavior on the roads goes unchecked. The zealots who push this nonsense seem to think that if you’re killed by a sober person who’s acting like an idiot behind the wheel you are somehow less dead than if you’re killed by a drunk who’s doing exactly the same things. If people believe cops should do more to make roads safer, they should demand that they throw away their alcohol detectors and radar guns. Then get off their lazy butts and out into traffic where they can actually observe and deal with dangerous drivers, drunk and sober. Every victim ever killed by a drunk driver was killed by the inputs or lack thereof to the drunk’s vehicle, not by the fact that he was drunk. It’s stupid to say those inputs are OK when your BAC is X, but not when it is X+1.

    2011 FACTS about drivers in the US involved in multi-vehicle crashes resulting in at least 1 fatality on US roadways (source: FARS – ftp://ftp.nhtsa.dot.gov/FARS/ )

    Total DRIVERs 37,863
    SOBER DRIVERs 35,710 (94%)
    non-SOBER DRIVERs 2,153 (7%)

    non SOBER DRIVERS with a BAC >=.12 1,735 (80% of the 7%)

    PIRE just like the Robert Woods Johnson foundation is a think tank alright. They think about neo-prohibition just like the MADD mothers. Passing laws like this do not save lives. The stats show SOBER INATTENTIVE and/or SOBER SPEEDING DRIVERS are doing the killing in over 94% of all crashes yet we push lower limits like .05 claiming it will stop the EXTREMELY impaired from driving. What’s that definition of insanity?

    Stop funding PIRE and MADD and RWJ foundations with my tax dollars. That is the solution.
