— An NRA lobbyist who supported a new Tennessee law to allow state college faculty members to carry guns on campus, with certain restrictions.

— Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and Attorney General Cynthia Coffman urged U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions to collaborate with recreational pot states on law enforcement and providing the industry access to the federal banking system.

Listening, Learning

“We can’t help but listen to the interviews with people in Houston who have no flood insurance. People react after an event but often forget the message.”

— Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia (IIAV) President and CEO Robert Bradshaw said the organization is motivated to “redouble its efforts” around hurricane preparedness, particularly as it relates to flood damage, after observing Hurricane Harvey’s impact in Texas. Bradshaw said insurers need to rededicate themselves to educating the public on the risks of flooding, as well as coverage options. The Atlantic hurricane season began on June 1 and ends November 30.
