CBIZ, Burnham, Colman, Kaelin, & Walker

CBIZ Inc. announced it has acquired Burnham, Colman, Kaelin & Walker of St. Joseph, Mo., effective April 1, 2006.

Originally founded in 1899 and with offices in St. Joseph and Kansas City, BCK&W is an insurance agency offering property and casualty, commercial bonds and employee benefits, and specializes in the agriculture, construction and printing industries.

CBIZ describes itself as a provider of professional business services to companies throughout the U.S. As a benefits specialist, CBIZ provides integrated
services including:

accounting and tax; employee benefits; property and casualty insurance; payroll; IS consulting; and HR consulting. It also provides internal audit; Sarbanes-Oxley section 404 compliance; valuation; litigation advisory; government relations; commercial real estate advisory; wholesale life and group insurance; and health care consulting.

Fort Dearborn Life, Ohio Group Dental

Fort Dearborn Life Insurance Company announced that it has introduced a group dental PPO program in the Ohio marketplace. Available on both an employer-paid and voluntary basis, Fort Dearborn Life’s PPO group dental program is designed for both the employee’s and the employer’s benefit budget.

The PPO program provides employees with access to more than 2,000 dental professionals in Ohio, the written statement said. Employees and insured family members have the freedom to seek care from any network dentist without a referral, resulting in a substantial cost savings. However, the plan also provides dental benefits to those who visit dentists outside the network.

The PPO network is administered through Dental Network of America (DNoA), a sister company of Fort Dearborn Life. DNoA and Fort Dearborn Life are both owned by Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC). Fort Dearborn Life Insurance Company is a subsidiary of Health Care Service Corporation, a Mutual Legal Reserve Company.

Gallagher, Sobieski & Bradley

Chicago-based Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. has acquired Sobieski & Bradley Inc. of Salt Lake City, Utah. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Sobieski & Bradley Inc. is a wholesale insurance broker and managing general agent which provides property/casualty, professional liability and other specialty insurance products and services for independent insurance agents and brokers located throughout the West. Michael Sobieski and his associates will continue to operate out of their current location in Salt Lake City under the direction of Joel Cavaness, president of Risk Placement Services Inc., a subsidiary of Arthur J. Gallagher & Co.

Acordia, Brodie

Acordia Inc., an insurance subsidiary of Wells Fargo & Company, has acquired the assets of Edward C. Brodie Insurance Brokers Inc. in Sacramento, Calif. The acquisition closed April 1, 2006. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Brodie Insurance Brokers staff will be moving to Acordia’s Rancho Cordova office. Acordia Inc., headquartered in Chicago, has 150 offices in 38 states. Its 4,500 insurance professionals place more than $8.5 billion of premiums.
