Kansas City, Mo.-based Ascension Insurance Inc. acquired Walter L. Clark & Associates Inc., headquartered in Fresno, Calif.
Walter L. Clark & Associates offers commercial insurance for a range of commercial businesses, with a specific emphasis in the agribusiness industry. The firm maintains offices in Fresno, Porterville and Visalia, Calif.
Walter L. Clark & Associates was founded in 1959. In addition to risk management and property and casualty solutions designed specifically for the agribusiness sector, the firm offers particular expertise in workers’ compensation as well as comprehensive employee benefits programs.
The purchase is part of Ascension’s strategy to build a national platform of risk management, insurance and employee benefits firms featuring specialized market expertise. Ascension is headquartered in Kansas City and has 35 offices nationwide.

Insurance Inc. opened a new office in Fillmore, Calif., to be headed by Bill Steiger.
Steiger began his insurance career in 1974 and brings a great deal of experience to the company. He owned his own agency for more than 35 years, and has knowledge in both casualty and life insurance products.
Statewide Insurance Brokers
Pasadena, Calif.-based Statewide Insurance Brokers, a broker of contractors insurance for general liability, workers’ compensation, commercial vehicle coverage and bonds, added Oregon to the states in which the company is licensed to operate. The company also insures contractors in California, Texas, Nevada and Minnesota.
Sequoia Insurance
California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones approved a filing by Sequoia Insurance Co. of Monterey, Calif., to offer pay-as-you-drive auto insurance. This program allows motorists who drive fewer miles to save money by only being charged for the insurance they need and use. It’s a voluntary option for California drivers.
