    Heather,

I enjoyed the article and it brought up some very important points for consideration.

There were a couple of things I wanted to mention. You present the example of the Muslim student at San Diego University who claimed she was robbed and mocked for her faith because she was wearing a hijab. However, you do not mention that she later admitted she made up the story.

I do not deny that this has been one of the most, if not the most, contentious election seasons we have seen. Nor do I deny that there are some (mostly on the fringe) that feel emboldened by what they see as a mandate for discriminatory behavior. However, it is also true that we live in a society that is increasingly over-sensitive and too quick to cry “racism”, “sexism”, etc. I do not deny there are still problems in our society with discrimination, but I also am not ignorant of the fact that for a variety of reasons there are those who claim discrimination when there is no basis in their particular situation. Some do it for the media attention, some for financial gain, some as part of a crowd mentality, some to avoid personal responsibility for their own mistakes or shortcomings.

In my opinion, the article could have presented both sides of the argument.
