Donald Clinton Jones of Walnut Creek, a licensed insurance broker, was arrested for insurance fraud following a September 1999 joint investigation between the CDI’s Fraud Division and Investigations Bureau and the Contra Costa District Attorney’s office.
From February 1996 through July 1998, the 62-year-old man allegedly sold earthquake insurance to 10 victims, most of whom were elderly, took their deposits and told them they had valid EQ coverage. He would then cash the checks and use the money for his own purposes.
According to investigators, the loss from these 10 cases totaled roughly $9,416; however, more victims have been identified. Anyone who purchased a policy through Don Jones Insurance Agency of Walnut Creek is urged to call the Department of Insurance Fraud Office, (925) 335-5900.
