Jagdish Chandra of Fullerton was arrested by CDI investigators arrested on one count of insurance fraud and two counts of perjury. Chandra, 58, was booked into the Orange County Jail on a $10,000 bail felony warrant.
An investigation revealed that Chandra filed a vandalism claim with State Farm Insurance Company for rental property he owned in Chino. Chandra allegedly claimed the theft of a stove and a dishwasher from the property.
In filing the claim, Chandra allegedly made several false statements under oath to substantiate his claims, which included telling State Farm that the property had been rented, a lease signed and a security deposit paid. This is requisite to meet State Farm’s 30-day residency requirement for rental property.
When the alleged renters were contacted, they verified they did not sign the submitted documents nor did they have any knowledge of the property to begin with.
Chandra claimed the City of Chino billed him $750 for board up services, but the city verified no such claim. Although no monies were paid on this claim, State Farm’s loss exposure was almost $23,000.
