Adjuster accused in kickback scheme

January 28, 2002

A Sacramento man faces possible revocation of his license as a Public Insurance Adjuster for allegedly soliciting and accepting illegal kickbacks from a contractor.

Resulting from an investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigations Branch’s Investigation Bureau, the CDI filed an “Accusation” with the intent to revoke the license of Troy Cross, owner of Specialty Insurance Adjusters, for soliciting and accepting cash and services in the amount of $66,609 from April 2001 to August 2001.

After being served with the “Accusation,” Cross can file a notice of defense to challenge the Department’s charges. An administrative law judge will then hear the case and if enough evidence is found to support the “Accusation”, Cross could face suspension or revocation of his license.
