The Florida Cabinet adopted an emergency rule extending the moratorium on cancellations and non-renewals for residential properties damaged during the 2004 hurricane season. The moratorium was set to expire Nov. 30, the last day of hurricane season, but the emergency rule prohibits insurance companies from non-renewing insurance policies for hurricane victims whose homes have not yet been repaired. It applies to residential and commercial/residential policies. The emergency rule is effective until Dec. 31 and prohibits insurance companies from canceling policies until 60 days after repairs are complete. There are some exceptions.
