Zurich Financial Services Group has appointed Maine Insurance Superintendent Alessandro A. Iuppa as head of Government and Industry Affairs for General Insurance, and as chief government affairs officer, North America. Both appointments are effective Jan. 15, 2007. Based in Washington, D.C., Iuppa will represent Zurich with various governmental and industry bodies at the federal and state levels in the U.S., as well as globally for general insurance.

Iuppa is currently Maine Superintendent of Insurance. He is just ending a term as president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Iuppa also serves as chair of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors, representing the U.S. Within the NAIC, Iuppa also served on the International Insurance Committee.

Nina Akerley has joined ProMutual Group, a provider of medical malpractice liability insurance in the Northeast, as a public relations specialist. Akerley will assist writing, researching and responding to media inquiries. Akerley comes to ProMutual Group with more than four years of experience in communications and public relations. Most recently, she served as senior product specialist at SmartPak, LLC. Based in Massachusetts, ProMutual Group member companies operate in Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont and, most recently, Pennsylvania.

Borden Perlman Insurance in Princeton, N.J., a personal and commercial lines agency, has appointed Sarah Willard Cammerzell to its personal lines department. Cammerzell will oversee sales and marketing for the department, which specializes in coverage for homes and vacation homes, boats and automobiles, excess liability, and valuable articles such as jewelry and artwork. She began her marketing career in New York City with the sports marketing department at Chase Manhattan Bank. Most recently, she served as a realtor with Henderson Sotheby’s in Princeton.

John Campbell and Mark Bradway have joined PWIB, a wholesale insurance broker headquartered in Atlanta. Both will be located in the New York, N.Y., office. Campbell has been named assistant vice president in the property department and Bradway has been named financial service broker.

Campbell has been in the insurance industry for 23 years on both the retail and wholesale side. He comes to PWIB from Privett Special Risk Services where he was vice president. Bradway has been in the insurance industry since 1999. He was a producer at Bisys/Tri-City before joining PWIB.

MarketScout, the Dallas, Texas-based eInsurance Exchange, announced Neal Odom has joined as vice president of finance. Odom will direct MarketScout’s finance and accounting operations and will help manage the distribution of products across the U.S. Odom most recently served as controller for Curley Insurance Group/Heartland Marketing.

Transportation insurer National Interstate Corp. announced that Alan R. Spachman will become its chairman and chief executive officer and David W. Michelson will be promoted to the positions of president and chief operating officer. National Interstate Corp said the moves are related to its executive management restructuring started in 2005.

Spachman is the company’s founder and has served as president since 1989 and chairman since 2004. As chairman and CEO Spachman will focus on the transition of his daily operational responsibilities to Michelson during the next 12 months.

Michelson has served as executive vice president and chief operating officer since 2005 and has held several other key positions since joining National Interstate in 1992. Since 2005 has overseen new business development, underwriting and claims. As president he will also focus on the other aspects of the company’s operations.
