Washington, D.C.-based Clements International, which specializes in insurance for U.S. expatriates and international organizations, announced four promotions.

Dan Tuman, former vice president of commercial insurance, is now vice president of insurance sales. He joined Clements International in 2000 and has over 20 years of insurance experience. As vice president of insurance sales, he leads the retail and wholesale divisions.

Lisa Kennedy-Mitchel, former director of operations, is now assistant vice president of operations. She joined Clements International in 2005 and has over 10 years of management experience in the financial services industry, servicing both corporate and individual clients. As assistant vice president of operations, one of her primary duties has been to serve as the liaison for the Peace Corps, as well as manage CorpsCare account representatives.

Michael Crossett, former director of marketing, is now assistant vice president of marketing. He joined Clements International in 2000. With over 10 years of marketing and graphic design experience.

Smita Malik, former commercial insurance account executive, is now director of commercial insurance sales. She joined Clements International in 2006 and has over 14 years of insurance experience. She specializes in fleets, political risks, cargo, professional liability, D&O, general liability, excess, credit, energy, aviation and war risk.

Chicago-based CNA has appointed new commercial underwriting officers in several branch offices. The following commercial underwriting officers are scheduled to begin their new roles in April:

Jamie Gibbins has more than 20 years of insurance experience. She began her insurance career at Kemper and moved into roles of increasing responsibility, including serving as Philadelphia branch manager for the past three years. She will be based in Washington, D.C.;

Charlie O’Donnell joins CNA from Zurich North America, where he most recently served as vice president of commercial markets for the four-state region of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas. He will be based in Dallas.

Michael O’Mahony is a 20-year veteran of CNA who started as an underwriting trainee and moved into roles of increasing responsibility. He most recently served as an underwriting director in the Florida branch. He will remain in Florida.

Jon Paulsen served 23 years with Travelers where he began as an associate property and casualty underwriter, and held positions of increasing responsibility. Most recently, he served as chief underwriting officer for its public sector and entertainment divisions. He will be based in Minneapolis.

The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (the Big “I”) announced that Ryan Young has joined the team as senior director of federal government affairs. Young, a native of Denver, N.C., joins the lobbying team primarily as a liaison to Republican congressional offices. The position was previously held by Joe Wall who recently departed the Big “I” to join the Goldman Sachs Capitol Hill team. Young previously served as legislative director to Rep. Kenny Marchant, R-Texas.

ACE USA, the U.S.-based retail operating division of the ACE Group, announced executive appointments in its large-risk division, ACE Risk Management.

Lou Capparelli has been appointed senior vice president and branch manager, Midwest Region, based in Chicago, Ill. David Zelickman has been appointed senior vice president and Branch Manager, Northeast Region, based in Boston, Mass.

Capparelli most recently served as senior vice president, Northeast Region, for ACE Risk Management. He joined ACE in December, 2002, and was responsible for broker relations in New England and upsate New York. He previously was with Liberty Mutual.

Zelickman most recently served as senior vice president, ACE Risk Management. He joined ACE in October 2000 as part of the Boston branch’s National Account Underwriting Unit. He previously held positions in the large-risk field operations arena with Reliance and Crum & Forster.
