Texas-based commercial insurance and risk management firm, K&S Insurance Agency, announced that John D. Marek has joined the company as partner. Marek will help lead the firm’s new business recruitment and sales management.

A specialist in casualty-driven businesses, Marek began his insurance career in the early 1990s. He is the current president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas. Prior to this appointment, Marek was a top producer for a Dallas-based insurance agency for 17 years. His areas of focus include construction, manufacturing, wholesale distribution, and property. Marek has earned designations as both a Certified Insurance Counselor and Certified Risk Manager.

Founded more than 30 years ago, K&S Insurance Agency specializes in commercial insurance, surety bonds and risk management solutions in a variety of industries, with a focus on construction.

Willis Group Holdings appointed Toby Wemyss as CEO of its Global Markets International (GMI) division. Based in London, he will report to Dominic Samengo-Turner, CEO of Willis’ London Market Wholesale businesses, which are comprised of Faber & Dumas, Willis Facultative and GMI.

Wemyss, most recently managing director of GMI, started his insurance career at Willis and has been with the Group for 10 years.

Allied American Underwriters (AAU), a national program manager and subsidiary of USG Holding/USG Insurance Services, added Pamela King as an underwriting assistant in Louisiana.

King developed her career throughout 19 years of service primarily dedicated to First Premium Insurance Group (FPIG). Most recently she worked as the marketing assistant at FPIG.

AAU Personal Lines writes clients on both an admitted and nonadmitted basis. Targeted classifications include vacant homes, coastal homes and high valued homeowners on a national basis. AAU Personal Lines is one of three divisions of AAU, which also includes Programs and Workers’ Compensation.

Austin, Texas-based medical professional liability insurance carrier, Medicus Insurance Co., added Kevin Wier as marketing manager.

Prior to joining Medicus, Wier managed brand and communication efforts at The University of Texas at Austin’s Division of Continuing & Innovative Education. Wier’s professional experience includes managing client strategic advertising and marketing efforts for Saatchi & Saatchi advertising in New York and Los Angeles and McCann Erickson advertising in Houston. Wier was also senior vice president, director of marketing for First National Bank Texas and associate director of advertising for Transamerica Life Companies in Los Angeles.

Medicus Insurance provides MPLI to physicians, surgeons and related medical service providers in 20 states.

ProspX Inc., a developer of a technology-based search and sales service for the commercial insurance industry, announced that Thomas M. Cornish joined the board of directors of Austin-based ProspX.

Cornish, a 29-year veteran of the banking and insurance industry, is the president and CEO of Florida-based Seitlin Insurance. Prior to Seitlin, Cornish worked for the SunTrust Banking Co. Cornish also serves as chairman of the independent insurance brokerage group, Assurex Global.

ProspX’s Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform combines enterprise search and social networking technology to automatically connect commercial insurance agents, brokers, and carriers at the initial point of a business opportunity, as well as throughout the sales cycle.
