Lloyd’s of London announced that Julian James, director-worldwide markets, will be leaving at the end of April to join Lockton International. He has been responsible for all Lloyd’s commercial activities outside the United Kingdom, including managing the company’s 72 trading licenses. He also oversees global branding and market development.

Lockton International was formed when Kansas City-based Lockton Inc. acquired Alexander Forbes International Risk Services, the international brokerage operation of Alexander Forbes Ltd.

Deloitte & Touche USA LLP’s insurance industry group reported that Howard Mills, who served as superintendent of the New York State Insurance Department from 2004 to 2006, joined as chief advisor, working with both U.S. and global insurance clients. At Deloitte, Mills will focus on strategic advisory work in areas such as growth, globalization, regulatory issues and compliance.

Additional senior-level hires include: Stephen Packard, director with Deloitte Consulting LLP, from The Hartford; Bertha Fortney, director with Deloitte Consulting LLP, from a global technology company; Carl Groth, director in Deloitte & Touche LLP, from the Willis Group Ltd.; and two additions to Deloitte Tax LLP, principal James Mannello and director Stephen Yarina.

Also, the practice was expanded with the purchase of certain assets of Technology Consultants Inc., a provider of benchmarking and advisory services.

Boston-based broker William Gallagher Associates appointed Michael J. Andersen principal. Andersen has been with WGA since 1996 and manages its regional offices. Andersen established WGA’s aviation practice in Atlanta, its healthcare practice in Princeton, N.J., and has integrated the energy practice between the Princeton and corporate headquarters office in Boston.

Argonaut Group Inc., San Antonio, Texas, named Gregory M. Vezzosi executive vice president and chief operating officer. He will guide the company’s core business strategy. He has 30 years of insurance experience.

American Team Managers, Anaheim, Calif., promoted Eric P. Magee to president, overseeing all agency operations. Previously he was executive vice president.

The American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds (AASCIF) named Pinnacol Assurance CEO Ken Ross as its 2007-2008 president. AASCIF is an association of workers’ compensation insurance companies from 27 states, plus 10 Canadian workers’ compensation boards. Ross was appointed president and CEO of Pinnacol, a Colorado workers’ comp insurer, in September 2005. He previously served as an executive at the New York State Insurance Fund for 10 years, the last four as CEO.

Ross will encourage AASCIF members to pursue involvement in other industry associations, as well as help members gain best practices and strategies for managing financial risk.

The Bermuda-based Catlin Group Ltd. appointed Peter Presperin chief financial officer of Catlin US, the group’s recently established underwriting platform in the United States. Presperin will be responsible for financial management. He was most recently chief financial officer of discontinued operations for Zurich Financial Services, and was previously executive vice president and CFO of Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co.

MarketScout, the Dallas-based eInsurance Exchange, named Tina Harris property underwriting manager. She will write monoline property coverage for independent agents and members of MarketScout’s eInsurance Exchange.

Marsh Inc. appointed David Bagnall sales and business development leader in the London office of its Financial and Professional Services Practice (FINPRO). He will be responsible for growing the U.K. and international business. Bagnall came from the law firm of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he was Global Head of Bank Relationships.

The London-based ACE European Group announced three management and organizational changes. Richard Pryce, president of ACE Global Markets, ACE’s international and specialty business, will assume additional responsibility for ACE’s U.K. property casualty business (ACE Europe). The newly combined segment will be known as ACE UK. The distinct brands of AGM and ACE Europe will have separate underwriting management.

Michael Furgueson, who has led the United Kingdom and Ireland property casualty operation, will return to the United States as executive vice president for ACE’s International Commercial and Multinational Lines business.

David Furby, president of ACE Continental Europe, assumed responsibility for Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Grass Valley, Calif.-based Networked Insurance Agents appointed Greg Arca territorial sales vice president, in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino counties. Arca steps into the California north coast territory previously managed by Donna Percival, who now will serve as sales director, a new position.

Arca comes to Networked from Applied Underwriters’ Foster City, Calif., office, where he was agency manager.

Percival will participate in hiring and training new sales staff, and develop affiliate-based programs.

CenCal Insurance Services Inc., Danville, Calif., named George A. Smith transportation underwriting manager. He has 24 years of experience in transportation and commercial underwriting.

Irvine, Calif.-based SullivanCurtisMonroe Insurance Services LLC appointed Wyatt Malcolm vice president. Prior to joining SullivanCurtisMonroe, Malcolm was a lead consultant for John Burnham Insurance Services in Irvine.

United Agencies Inc. Insurance hired Joan Panasiti as general manager for the company’s Pasadena, Calif., headquarters, responsible for liaison with carrier relationships and troubleshooting for the multiple member agencies.
