The California Insurance Wholesalers Association honored David F. Anderson, chairman of Anderson & Murison, with its Wholesale Industry Award.

Anderson was a founding president of CIWA from 1991 to 1993. He served on the board of the directors of the organization from founding until 2010.

He was one of only two individuals to serve twice as chairman of the Surplus Line Association of California, in 1974 and again in 1982. He served as president of the American Association of Managing General Agents in 1981. He served on AAMGA’s executive committee from 1976 to 1982. And he was a board member of the Surplus Line Coalition in 1993.

“Without Dave Anderson, the face of the wholesale insurance industry would not be what it is today,” said Hank Haldeman, executive vice president and director of The Sullivan Group, who presented the award.

Prior to founding Anderson & Murison, Anderson worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., The Rule Company Insurance Brokers, General Insurance Consultants and Commercial Security Insurance Exchange. He has served as an expert witness regarding the surplus lines industry, the wholesale insurance marketing system and the duties and operations of a surplus line broker.

San Diego-based Barney & Barney LLC named Trindl Reeves chief sales officer. Reeves has been a principal with the firm since joining in 2006.

Reeves started her career in the insurance industry more than 20 years ago. Prior to joining Barney & Barney as a principal in the Commercial Department, she served as managing director of Marsh San Diego.

Members of the Surplus Line Association of California (SLA) elected Patrick Hanley as their chairman. Hanley is president of Socius Insurance Services Inc. in San Francisco.

Other officers elected for the 2011 term include: Vice Chairman Davis Moore, president of Worldwide Facilities Inc.; and Secretary-Treasurer Pamela Quilici, executive vice president of Crouse & Associates.

In addition, 10 executive committee members were elected: Immediate Past Chairman Les Ross of Wholesale Trading Co-Op Insurance Services LLC, Dean Adrighetto of Westchester Specialty Insurance Services, Denis Brady of American E & S Insurance Brokers, Chris Brown of Brown & Riding Insurance Services Inc., John Edack of Arch Specialty Insurance Agency Inc., Ian Fitt of Western Re/Managers Insurance Services Inc., Rupert Hall of M. J. Hall & Co. Inc., Phil Mazur of Swett & Crawford, Anne McNally of Wells Fargo Insurance Services Inc., and Gerald J. Sullivan of Gerald J. Sullivan & Associates Inc.

SLA members also unanimously voted to approve the appointment of former Insurance Commissioner Justice Harry Low (Ret.) for a one-year term as SLA Mediator.

Capital Insurance Group promoted Jeff J. Gans to resident director of operations for Nevada Capital Insurance Co. (NCIC), an affiliate company of CIG. He will be responsible for admitted underwriting and agency operations and non-admitted program business for NCIC . He will also be the resident director of CIG-affiliated Nevada Captive Insurance Companies (Capital Risk Management Insurance Co., Greenside Insurance Co., and Pacific Capital Insurance Co.) where he will be responsible for reinsurance underwriting for the captive companies.

Prior to joining CIG, Gans worked for Employers Insurance Group, CNA Standard Lines and AON Underwriting Managers.

Thea Fautenberry joined Gallagher Benefit Services in Tacoma, Wash., as an employee benefits client consultant. Fautenberry has more than 25 years of employee benefits and human resource experience. Fautenberry most recently worked for a local insurance brokerage as a senior account executive.
