Maryland Insurance Commissioner Steven B. Larsen has named Wendy J. Taparanskas, Ph.D., Associate Commissioner for Life and Health. Dr. Taparanskas will replace Donna B. Imhoff who left the agency in June.
Dr. Taparanskas is currently a health insurance specialist for the U.S. Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA). She has been responsible for the design and monitoring of several private health insurance reform projects — including evaluating and tracking information related to the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
She is the former supervisor of managed care regulation for the State of Missouri Department of Insurance, implementing Missouri’s managed care patient protection laws of 1997, and was a research assistant for the University of Missouri’s Department of Health Management and Informatics.
