The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) hailed the passage of Senate Bill 556, “which fully privatizes the state’s medical professional liability system.”
The reform measure “places the Medical Professional Liability Catastrophe Loss Fund (CAT Fund) under an independent authority, Provides for payoff of the CAT Fund’s estimated $2.1 billion unfunded liability, caps future CAT Fund surcharges, and phases out the CAT Fund in six years,” said the announcement.
