May 2, 2002

{The Professional Insurance Agents of Connecticut (PIACT) announced that it has completed a year-long study of its members’ perceptions of insurance company performance in the state.

Leading the list of companies that performed the best were Chubb Group, Middlesex Mutual Assurance Co., NLC Insurance Cos., Progressive, and SAFECO. All scored consistently among the top five companies on more than half the survey’s questions.

The announcement stated that “PIACT members evaluated companies on a range of items in performance categories including: ease of doing business; marketing support; technology; products and pricing; claims handling; and overall agency support. Seventeen company groups were included in the survey, chosen because of the number of PIACT members representing them.”

In a letter to the CEO’s of the companies involved in the survey, PIACT president James Pascarella, CPCU indicated that “Agents look for overall excellence in their company partners. PIACT congratulates you on the positive report by our members regarding your company’s performance on a variety of important factors that contribute to a good agency-company relationship.”

“Other insurers included in the survey were: Atlanta Casualty Co.; its parent, Great American Insurance Group; The Hartford; Kemper Insurance Cos.; Ohio Casualty Group; OneBeacon; Royal & SunAlliance; Travelers; Western Surety Co. (a member of CNA Insurance Cos.); Windsor Auto Group (affiliated with Great American); and Zurich North America,” said the announcement.
