Liberty Mutual Opens Captive Office in Vermont

February 4, 2005

Liberty Mutual Captive Services opened its second on-shore office in the past four months on January 20 when it gained approval to establish Liberty Mutual Management (Vermont) LLC in South Burlington.

The principal representative for this Vermont business is Kathryn Boucher who has extensive experience in captive management in Vermont.

Liberty Mutual Management (Vermont) LLC will provide captive management as well as offer consulting, fronting, reinsurance support, claims services and loss prevention. These services can be offered separately, to complement an existing program, or in a bundled capacity. Capabilities include managing wholly owned captives and rent-a-captives such as protected cell structures and association and group facilities in a variety of industries.

“Vermont is the largest on-shore domicile in the U.S. and was the obvious next step in the continued growth of our on-shore presence,” said Peter J. Willitts, president of Liberty Mutual Management Services. “Its strong captive professional services infrastructure made it an attractive arena for us and is a perfect fit for Kate’s expertise – her skills align perfectly with the strong reputations of both Liberty Mutual and the State of Vermont.”

Liberty Mutual also has captive management companies in Bermuda and South Carolina.

“We are delighted that Liberty Mutual has chosen to open a captive management office in Vermont,” said Governor Jim Douglas. “Vermont is known world-wide for its professional support services, and Liberty Mutual will be a terrific addition.”
