Just a thought, but, if we are giving teens the ability and responsibility of driving, we should wait until they reach full majority at 18. This way the parents will not have to be responsible for the stupid actions of their children at a time when the parents are not with them, i.e. driving with their friends.
I hope this passes – especially from the perspective of a parent of a 15 year old who is salivating over the prospect of driving next year. 16 is way too young to be driving. I\’d much rather have the \”trouble\” of providing a safe ride every time my child needs one then be going to the hospital or a funeral. It happend far too often to kids under 18.
I agree completely. Why should a parent be responsible for a stupid mistake that their child made. Especially with the way people are trying to get rich quick… i.e. suing someone!
Every state in this country should be moving toward passing this new law. I also agree that they should go ahead and make it age 18 in order to protect the parents since this country has gotten so litigeous in nature. Can you imagine what the impact will be on declining the number of those injured or killed in accidents each year. The results will be huge…no question!! From a parent\’s point of view (the one that matters most), sixteen is way way too young to start driving. Now, had you told me that when I was 15…..I probably would have thought you were nuts. Very few 16 year olds have the maturity to handle the responsibility and have no idea what the word \”consequence\” means. It\’ll never happen to me. This will save lives and injuries, medical costs, attorney costs, heartache and pain for thousands of families & friends. This law should be a slam dunk! I can\’t think of one reason not to pass it. The benefits far outweigh anything else.
Looks like each post is divesting themselves of responsibility for their children or passing it along to someone else. I still am responsible for my children (19 & 21) and would not trade it or shirk that duty. If more people would teach their children how to DRIVE not just stear a car, perhaps there would not be as many accidents.
My only concern with raising the age limit is that we are sending them to college – out of town or out of state with less experience driving and no parent overseeing their day to day habits. Keep the learners permit age low. GA allows licensing at 16, after one year with permit, then no other people except family are allowed in the car for 6 months. The teens don\’t have the friends distracting them as they drive until they have a little experience.
I think that the teenagers need more driving hours with the instructor. I also think the laws regarding passengers, alcohol, etc need to be strongly enforced by the police. For example, I know of a 16 1/2 year old girl who was stopped for speeding, had a teenage passenger in the car and open alcohol. Did she loose her license? No she did not.
i think that the thaught of raising the driving age is rediculas. why not only provide the permits to youths who are mature enough to handle the great responcibilty? making a person wait for something will only make them be more iresponcible and reckless when they finnaly do get it. not only this but it will make more children have to illegally take their parents cars and illegally drive them without the experince of drivers ed. and/or just beaing taught the traditional way
why on earth would they do such a thing high school already sucks soo much at least let us drive to our friends and our jobs or does this state like familys to stay poor!
You know what, bob? I don\’t think someone could have expressed my thoughts any more eloquently than you. Rethinking my first statement, though, Canada is far gayer than Mass. Are there any straight places I can raise my 20 children?
i very much agree with Bob and Jamal on this one. Whoever you two are, I, as a great teenage driver, agree that not every teen should be punished for a few unintelligent actions from a few idiotic teens. Honestly, the age should not currently been raised. Maybe try some other solutions???
They should not change the age to get your drivers license because that is soo unfare to the kids that did not make the age cut off. All of this extra driving is not nessaseraly going to help. NOT ALL KIDS DRIVE LIKE IDIOTS. Only the stupid and irrisponcible kids drive drunk and speed and kill themselfs. They should not spoil it for the rest of us!!!!!!!!!
i THiNK THAT iF YOU ARE RESPONSiBLE ENOUGH TO DRiVE THEN YOU SHOULD GET THE CHANCE NO MATTER WHAT YOUR AGE iS. THiNK OF OTHER WAYS TO STOP iRRESPONSiBLE TEENAGE DRiVERS.. iTS NOT FAiR.
how r we going to get around when are parents are at home be lazy and cant take there kid to practice or somewhere and what if we cant get a ride to are job
I think that we should leave the age as it is permit at 16 licents at 16 1/2 but the parents and officers are not going to agree with us so i think that we should be 17 before we get our licents we get our permit at 16 and by 16 1/2 we should be abel to drive with an adult at hte age of 18 not 21 it is only fair we need to agree on this and be reasonabel we have jobs to do and not every one has parents to take them Some teens have children and they have things and resposabiltys to take care of I have to make money i need to be abel to get to my job i have things i have to support we need to agree on somthing and thats all i have to say here us out so we may be teens but we have a right!!!

Mike in NY – My thoughts exactly!

I\’m going to have to agree with bob on this one. I, personally, think Mass is a bunch of fags. We should all move to Texas or Canada!

Maybe you should learn how to spell responsible
Josh… stay in school. When you can write a response correctly, then MAYBE or maebe someone will take you serious.
