All he needs to do is exercize his triceps – by pushing himself away from the supper table.

It’s about time a jury got it right. Weis should have been happy that two excellent surgeons even agreed to operate on his huge carcass and that he didn’t die. When you disregard your surgeons recommendation to take six weeks to prep for this surgery to assume any risk that comes with it. In this case, you have an ingrate who lashes out at the surgeons over his perception that they did something wrong. These men were experts in their field. It’s highly unlikely they botched anything. Just because there’s a complication or bad outcome from a surgical procedure doesn’t mean there was malpractice.

A doctor can only do the best he/she can. Even at that, there’s always the possibility of a bad outcome or a mistake. Neither translates to malpractice. Instead of attacking the people who have the courage to take on difficult tasks, we should applaud their efforts. They risk a lot more than Fat Chuck ever will. And where does the Michelin Man of college football get off second guessing a surgeon?

Obesity is a disease. Many think it can be controlled by “pushing away from the supper table” and other such actions. If only it were so easy.

Obesity is a disease? In every case? In any case?

Here’s an experiment, I don’t care what your waistline is, so long as you are overweight: consume only 400 calories per meal, three meals a day, and you willlose weight.

For one thing, that’s plenty of calories, for another, if you are lugging around 200 lbs of lard it has enough energy stored in it to fule an Indy car for 500 laps, so you won’t starve.

Drink lots of fluids. Eat a salad now and then. Walk around the block occasionally. Whatever hormonal imbalance is in effect, it only exacerbates the problem if you EAT LIKE A HORSE.

“Obesity is a complex disease for which no single cause or cure exists.”

“Other things can affect … weight, such as family history or genetics. If one of your parents is obese, you are 3 times as likely to be obese as someone with parents of healthy weight.”

“Other things influence your weight and whether you are physically active, including:
    * Low self-esteem. Being overweight or obese may lower your self-esteem and lead to eating as a way to comfort yourself. Repeated failure at dieting also can affect your self-esteem and make it even more difficult to lose weight.
    * Emotional concerns. Emotional stress, anxiety, or illnesses such as depression or chronic pain can lead to overeating. Some people eat to calm themselves, to avoid dealing with unpleasant tasks or situations, or to dampen negative emotions.
    * Trauma. Distressing events, such as childhood sexual, physical, or emotional abuse; loss of a parent during childhood; or marital or family problems, can contribute to overeating.
    * Alcohol. Alcohol (beer and mixed drinks) is very high in calories. Drinking alcohol may cause you to gain more weight around your stomach.
    * Medicines or medical conditions. Some medical conditions and medicines may also cause weight gain. Examples include having Cushing’s syndrome or hypothyroidism or taking antidepressants or corticosteroids.”

Wow, all cop outs. Take responsibility. If you’re overweight and you eat because you feel bad about yourself, then stop and take a walk. No one shoves food down your throat, you have to put it in your mouth, chew and swallow.

I’d like to see a family photo to confirm this to be the case. Just one other thing. If it is genetic, he should know there’s no quick fix for the condition. Blowing off medical advice for sake of convenience is not just stupid, but arrognant.

Today’s NY Times had an article that if your friend is obese, than chances are you will become obese too. (True story)

Another news reporter wrote that willpower (or lack thereof)was the number one cause of obesity, according to news reporter
    Pat Riotssuck.

In every instance, it’s eating and drinking that causes weight gain. Even if you are on steroids and if puffs you up, LAY OFF THE BREAD STICKS.

One could as easily say that he steals to make himself feel better. “Maybe I ought to steal a nice coat to increase my self esteem.”

I know a family of six, four of whom are way fat. If you go there for dinner you get the bread and the cheese and the huge portions of pasta, but they blame their doublebutts on “glands.” I repeat: no adult could possibly remain overweight on 1200 calories a day. But if that doesn’t work, move it down to 1100. EXERCIZE THE OL’ TRICEPS and push yerself away from the table.

Obesity is a disease. The Latin term for it is I EAT CONSTANTLY. The PDA defines it thusly: “A chronic condition caused by fists full of Doritos and guacamoli being repeatedly jammed into the patient’s pie hole unitl 2:00 AM every night. It’s the only disease that actually makes one feel better about himself.”

Hi slim – i met a girl who is by no means fat (just a little thick), but wants to be an actress…assuming she won’t wait another 30 for hollywood to reprise the role of Hairspray again, i doubt she’ll have much luck (that’s neither here nor there, but wanted to get that off my chest.) ANYWHO…if i had to guess, i’d say she’s 5’4″ and probably 135-140 pounds..so not ridiculously overweight, but a nice chunk of change. She “claims” she has a thyroid problem. but aren’t people with thyroid problems usually EXTREMELY overweight?

Some furnaces burn hotter than others. I quit smoking in October and gained 25 lbs w/o increasing my caloric intake at all. I really have to watch what I eat now because my metabolism went through the floor w/o nicotine. If I were to eat as much now as I was then, and say that I now have the disease called Post-Smoking Syndrome which is causing me to gain weight. Or I could cut back on the calories and not have to buy new pants. I chose the latter, still gained a lot of weight, and had to buy new pants. But at least I tried.

I’m not Dr. Slim, I just know that calories must be either burned or stored.

    A. I’m not fat.

    B. I’m not making excuses. I said that when I gained weight because I quit smoking, I had to be more careful about what I eat. That supports my point, I should think. If I were making excuses I would have said that I gained fifty pounds because I refused to adjust my caloric intake just because I was gaining weight.

    Is that unclear?

No, it isn’t unclear, but, well…if you weren’t making excuses then why do you have to keep pointing out the fact that you quit smoking? What does that have to do with it? Maybe you just got fat right around the time you quit smoking? i used to smoke too, and successfully quit…didn’t gain one pound for it.
