Actually, nasal steroids are commonly diagnosed to treat sinus issues / allergy symptoms. Nasacort/Rhinacort/Flonase etc are in the steroid class of drugs.
Exactly. Synthetic corticosteroids are commonly prescribed for symptoms related to allergies, hay fever etc.
My only question would be: When the symptoms did not respond to the corticosteroid, did the patient return to the doctor to seek further treatment or just say “oh well, it didn’t work” and continue on until the condition worsened to the point of serious problems.
Most doctors set a follow-up appointment after prescribing any type of medication for the sole purpose of determining if the course of treatment was effective or needs to be evaluated further. As usual, there is a lot of left out info in this case beyond a simple “oops! here’s 3 million bucks”
Thanks for the details. It would help if IJ would be a bit more specific, especially since the information was available.
It is cases like this unfortunately that will lead to Dr.’s prescribing a myriad of tests for potentially minor afflictions just in case something else is going on. Test for everything to avoid a MedMal suit.
After being misdiagnosed by a P.A. last year, one who told me I had the flu, in September no less, and that my lungs were “clear” when the left one was about to be shut down from Legionairre’s pneumonia, I would never again see one. After coming within inches of death, my age saving me, I have tried to sue and am told since I didn’t die, I have no recourse. If one knos of someone that can tell me differently, please do.
I could be wrong, but it sounds to me like the headaches she was complaining about were an indication of something more than just a routine sinus infection, and that she should gone back to see the Drs as soon as they were back in the office. Or she should have gone elsewhere if they were going to be away for awhile.
Compman, that was the line of the day, wow your wife sounds like a real drag. I bet she was an ugly old heffer. You are better off without your ugly wife sitting around eating all day!
This sounds like total misjudgment on the part of the physician’s assistant!Steriods for a runny nose and headaches, come on!

Once again, shoddy writing by the IJ. But I did like the last line of the article.
“She remains unable to regulate her emotions and has difficulty with complex cognitive function.”
That is the perfect description of my ex-wife!
Here is the article:

Her condition worsened within 5 days; she had emergency brain surgery & then went into respiratory failure.
a brain abcess, yikes, that sounds pretty devastating. Hit this woman hard and hit the woman fast, terrible shame.

Shame on you Compman! Although I did get a good chuckle.

Compman, I don’t always see eye to eye with you but that comment just made my day! We’ve got to find a reason to chuckle every once in a while, right?
