so, if hartford was paying the workmans comp. how come the workman’s comp folks never told the employer? afterall, do they not pay the deductible and say how long he/she should be out of work based on the doctor’s information? speaking of which, is it not the employer’s right to know how long and when that person should be coming back to work? so where’s the missing paper trail? sounds like a case of employee taking advantage of the left foot not talking w/the right foot, or should i say walking together….
The article, in typical IJ fashion, does not give all the information we need; but here’s my best guess from experience. He probably went to work for a different employer. That leaves The Hartford completely out of the loop, even if the new employer is insured through them. That’s because you don’t report individual employees, you report payroll or hours worked (depending on the state). The Hartford would have no idea he was back at work. Especially if he faked it at the doctor or hadn’t seen the doctor in a while. It’s way too easy to defraud the workers’ comp system.
