Come on. This is insanity. The tournment was specificially for men, and she wasn’t a man. If they had a father daughter tournament could I sue since I am a son, not a daughter? Get a life. And to equate some woman at a country club not getting to play in a tournament to the segregation blacks felt at best insane at worst insensitive.

The genders need their own places to be. Women have long battered at the doors of the places men go to be with men, yet raise bloody hell if we even think about going where the women congregate. (Remember the girl who sued to get into a Boy Scout camp? What if a boy tried to get into a Girl Scout camp?)

Leave us alone! Let us have our men-only places and you go to your women-only places. There are plenty of places the sexes can mingle.

Typical gender BS. I’m sure there are women only events, and probably a womens member-member event. I’ll even bet there are some tournaments for mixed genders, but she now wants to play in the men only events. Grow up. If she insists, let her play……from the same tees and under the same rules as the men…..you want equal, you got it. Of course, say goodbye to that event.

She was banned from the tournament? I recommend that Ms. Joyce do a little more research into the reasons for this ban. (My guess is that her father whispered to the club pro “Find a reason to keep her out of this event. I want to win, and I certainly won’t be able to do that with a partner that’s going to shoot a 134”)!!

If she was a member at the club, she should have been allowed to play, no questions asked.

Public courses are subject to public policies. Private courses are subject to private policies. Just ask the Augusta National Club.

Its not like she couldn’t play at all. She was not allowed to play in a MEN’S Tournament. If she went to play in an OPEN tournament and was turned away because she was a woman I could see that being an issue. If it is a MEN’S tournament doesn’t it stand to reason that only men can play in that particular tournament? She did not meet the guidelines, and therefore was not entitled to play. Who is to say the golf course didn’t regularly have Women’s tournaments? I feel a road trip on that day, followed by a windfall judgement because I was discriminated against! Boo hoo! Get over it. Makes me as mad as the idiot who sued the bar over ladies night….what a moron. See I hate idiots of all genders.

Wow, do I hope I am not picking up on some serious sarcasm in these posts. It was Member-Member. Not Man-Man. Have a Man-Man Tournament, ban girls from playing in it, and go back to your lives of being most likely inadequate role models for your daughters. That woman paid her member dues just like everybody else.

What makes a person want to do this?? If she wins and gets to play, does she think she will be made to feel welcome out on the course? Isn’t this supposed to be a fun day for all?? Is she just trying to prove something? So, in the end, when this event is cancelled in future years, will she take pride in knowing that she was responsible for destroying a harmless, annual tradition at this course?

It was a MEN’S TOURNAMENT genius. Which word do you not understand? This is a fine example of female reasoning: ignore reality, pretend what you want to believe is true, lie, and then act indignant.

The article is ambiguous at best.

A Cape Cod, Mass. woman is suing the town of Dennis and its two public golf courses after she wasn’t allowed to play in a men’s tournament with her father.

MEN’S Tournament, but then goes on to say member-member. If it was a men’s tournament, guess what? You have to be a man to play. Just like you have to be a woman to get into clubs for free on some nights. What is the big deal?

If you look at the website for the city’s courses, they had a ‘Women’s Member\Member’ tournament the week before the ‘Men’s Member\Member’ tournament. They had other similar opportunities for her to play in tournaments. It appears the lawsuit is for some other agenda.

    There are 2 WOMENS tournaments – various OPEN tournaments – SCRAMBLES and 4 Ball Tournaments – and MENS (let’s repeat that…) MENS MEMBER/MEMBER tournament – which means if you’re a man…and a member… you get to play together ! ! !

I’m a woman – and I can’t believe this B$&#*() has the brass to complain – if she’s a member – she knows the rules – Let’s see if one of the MEN wants to sign up for the LADIES tournament – what would happen…

Give me a break – Get off of your high horse and stop embarrassing the rest of us – There is a place in this world for everyone, and just because you don’t like where you’re standing in line – stop whining…

This suit should be tossed immediately. It has no basis in any type of discrimination, only the wants of a middle aged female with obvious issues. The clubs should file a countersuit for defamation and defense fees for this frivolous suit. This woman is disgrace to the 99.9% of woman who wouldn’t have even considered this an issue.

I’m a foul, noisy, low-brow American. Give me screaming, yelling, beer, hot dogs and big foam “#1” fingers.

Why does she have her panties in a twist over this particular tournament? Can’t she play golf with her dad some other time? Maybe he doesn’t even like golf. He’d probably have a better time watching football at Hooters. I know my dad would rather do that.

She sounds like a selfish pain in the butt. I wouldn’t want to play golf with her either. Her dad is probably embarrassed that she turned out to be a big old wet blanket. Poor dude.

i’m kind of tired of women who sue over issues like this….i think it makes the whole gender equality issue a joke. and i wish women would wake up and realize that equality doesn’t mean we always have to be where the boys are, it doesn’t mean we have to act like men, try to be like men…

if there wasn’t a tournament that she could have played in with her father, why didn’t she ask for one…and then she could turn it into a charity event and raise money for the local Planned Parenthood to hand out free birth control to stupid people (possibly herself).

I am not sure what to make of this. I play at a military base golf course and found several lady colonels who do play from the white tees with the men and who are more accomplished golfers. What I don’t understand is how this woman could be a member of the club and be excluded from the event without knowing beforehand that it was men-only. And if it was a men-only event, was this an annual event? If so, she should know better. But more probable is that she and her dad conspired to make a stink. I would rely on the by-laws which she, as a member, agreed to when she joined the club. Case closed, throw out the suit with prejudice!
