Alright. That does it. I officially no longer want a monkey. Period. No pet monkeys.

But those sea monkeys are so cute. At least they don’t tear off your hands and face.

I recently took my dog to the vet. I noticed that she had what appeared to be a human bite mark bruise on her forearm. She told me that the bite had been inflicted by a pet chimp during a routine exam. She shared that she thought people see primates as human and this is what makes them dangerous to keep as pets. That and they’re powerful and unpredictable. No monkeys for me, either.

Why did a human bite your dog on the forearm?

It’s so comforting to hear the doctors say she’s “improving”. The woman is blind, has no face or hands, and is looking at 2 years of more surgical procedures that will accomplish what? Make her look like a freak? Regardless of the “medical miracles”, this woman is doomed. Life as she knew it is over with zero prospects for any quality of life going forward regardless of how much money she may be awarded. This is truly tragic, but directly related to bad judgments by the moron who harbored a large, wild animal, and Nash, who assumed a risk that figuratively cost her her life.

Not only should she receive the $ to assist in her ongoing care, but the nut that owned the monkey should be required to be the maimed woman’s caregiver at least 40 hours a week.

forget 40 hours per week. It should be 24/7 for the rest of her life.

If an animal had these injuries we would put it out of its misery. But this lady has to live like this.

Cant wait to see her on Oprah in a year or two.

There’s an article that speculates that it’s possible a recent bout with Old Lyme Disease may have affected the chimp’s temperment. I think the entire episode is terribly tragic for everyone concerned. After it was shot, the poor animal ran to its bed to die, the terrible injuries the woman suffered, the owner, who loved it and hadn’t really had signs that the animal would attack in such a sever manner. I don’t believe in “pain & suffering” awards but only feel that the injured woman deserves reimbursement for her current and future medical costs and whatever monies that she may not be able to earn due to her injuries, in order to maintain the same quality of life she had before the injury.

What’s really disturbing to me is how did the monkey take her hands? ugh… did it have a hacksaw or something? teeth? how long did this take? I honestly can’t think of a worst fate, and then to live through it.
Don’t forget to disclose the crazy monkey exclusion when selling your disability and LTC policies!

I get it, Meg. You aggrandize yourself by pointing out the faults of others. Very charming…. your mother must be SO proud. It’s not a novel approach. People on message boards and blogs do it all the time. You have succeeded. I feel duly condescended to. I know, another conversational sentence. Shame on me!

What do you mean by conversational? If this were an actual conversation you would still be telling me that your dog was bit by a human.

Its really a matter of clear communication, whether it be by speaking, or the written word, it makes no difference in this case.

Just laugh it off like everyone else, it was funny, dont be so thin skinned.

Brokette, I wouldn’t be too concerned about comments from people who think dogs have forearms. I’ve always considered dogs as being four legged friends; therefore, no forearms.

“I noticed that she had what appeared to be a human bite mark bruise on her forearm.”

I was confused until I got to “forearm”. Then it became clear to me she was referring to and talking to the vet and not the dog.

Meg, I got “you” humor. Brokette (or is it “Brook”?), don’t take it too seriously, I know what you meant and I’m sure Meg did too.

I’m with Brokette. Sorry Meg. You couldn’t even get her name right. What’s with “Brook”?

Here’s the thing. Meg, and others, couldn’t see that a vet could be a woman. What’s wrong with you!

    Let’s review.

“I recently took my dog to the vet. I noticed that she had what appeared to be a human bite mark bruise on her forearm.”

“She” here is refering to the vet, NOT THE DOG! I probably wouldn’t have worded it this way, but Meg… YOU ARE DENSE for not seeing this yet.

The point is that a woman has been maimed for the rest of her life by a careless and selfish pet owner. Per a news report that was shown at the time of this tragedy, the monkey had bitten others and had already proven hostile. The owner should be responsible financially and prosecuted for knowingly endangering others. I’m not a lawyer, but there has to be several laws that were broken. I believe people who have owned vicious dogs have been sent to jail when their animals attack and kill others.

I saw it immediately. But its not about opinion or choice. There is a right way and a wrong way.

We have the capability with the English language to communicate clearly if we take the time.

She made a gramatical error and referred to her dog as a human, that is funny or comical, thus worthy of a mention.

You all have no ability to laugh.

If her dog was actually bitten by a human, the wording would have been perfect.

She used the pronoun at the wrong time.

I would like to know just how many monkeys, chimps, orangatangs and other related species are being kept in private homes as “pets” and in what towns. It seems like there are an awful lot of these stories circulating in the media and I wonder at night if the noise I hear in the brush out behind my fence is a cow coyote or 200 lb crazed monkey bent on biting off my vital parts.

And Brokette-hun you are ok in my book. I got what you were trying to say and don’t let the jerks steer you wrong.

Meg, your attempt at humor is very lame.

I wonder when insurance companies will start asking about chimp ownership on applications. They ask about vicious breeds of dogs but should really ask about any animals.

I truly feel very sorry for this woman and what she has gone through and will continue to go through.

Meg, you need to take a chill pill. For your information many of our companies only ask the question of “exotic animals” on their applications, not asking you to list each and every animal in the home.

Send me your email and I will send you copies.

to make matters even worse, this poor chimp had recently completed the application process to be in Obama’s cabinet shortly before he was shot. He was being considered for Secretary of the Treasury, but he apparently wasn’t good enough at slinging bullsh-t.

The only monkey that should be a pet is Mr. Teenie from the Simpsons..but only b/c he wears roller skates, wears a little hat, and smokes cigars. Other than that, no monkeys for pets!

I have followed this tragic story from the first day, I write to Charla so her brothers can read her mail, and I wonder if Sandra Herold has made any requests to see her “Friend” or send an email?
Also does Charla know what condiion she is in? I suspect not, it’s very important to be stable and healthy as possible before hit with such horriffic news.
She must be wondering though…God love her…with the right help, and a lot of love and support, she can make a life worth living, though no amount of money will ever replace her losses. She seems to me like a real fighter, a wonderful generous caring woman that did not deserve this!
