New Hampshire’s state geologist says a small earthquake recorded in the Lakes Region is the most recent in a long line of seismic activity.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a quake with a Magnitude of 2.1 was detected on April 15 at 5:48 p.m. The epicenter was in Tilton, approximately 10 kilometers south-southwest of Laconia, at a depth of some six kilometers.
The Citizen reports that state geologist David Wunsch said the zone of activity in question has more recorded earthquakes than the rest of the state, while New Hampshire gets a fair share of earthquakes compared to the rest of New England.
Most of those earthquakes have been relatively minor ones on the Richter scale, which is a measure of the seismic energy released by an earthquake.
