“I’m a believer and I’m a Christian and I don’t want this trash in my backyard.”

What makes people like this lady any different from those who support extreme interpretations of Islam such as Wahhabism?

If you aren’t prepared to accept views that directly contradict your own then you don’t deserve to live in a free country. Tolerance of other beliefs and values is the cornerstone of freedom.

Ghandi once said “I like your Christ but not your Christians.”

This lady gives us a great example of why he felt this way.

My only sadness is that he wasn’t insured. It will be harder now for him to rebuild. I hope he does. People like her need to learn a little tolerance. Someone should build a club literally in her back yard. That can be her punishment. Or they should make her pay him for the rest of her life to rebuild it.

Poor Sherry Perry, sounds like she’s jealous of the beautiful girls that worked there. Sherry, go home, lock your doors and read your Bible. Judgment Sherry, is reserved for the Lord, or didn’t you get to that part of the good book yet?

I respect everyone’s freedom to do as they wish, however I am a firm believer that you do not blatantly disregard the views of others. I often hear “this is a free country” – well, freedom did not come overnight nor was it cheap.

I live in Maine, but not Vassalboro, I own a small business, and I am not a Christian, but on some level I opposed this shop for one reason- the owner could have chosen a better town for his shop. Vassalboro has an approx population of 4450. This is a small, rural town. To put such a controversial business in such a small, rural town is being disrespectful. Per the article 97% of the people were against the shop. He could have chosen a city such as Portland. You have to live in Maine to understand Maine’s culture (I did not grow up in Maine nor in the USA), however I do respect Mainers and Americans and their culture. Respect is vital to our survival as a more civilized society. I think this gentleman is forgetting that bit of information.

Is is this the kind of business you want in your neighborhood around your family and children? Get real and grow up, when you start a mudhole the hogs are going to come around. A business like this is not good for any community and the kiss of death for a small one.

I am sure that passers by couldn’t see into the shop. God forbid little Johnny sees a pair of boobs. How traumatic. I know I was scarred for life when I saw my first boob when I was 10 minutes old.

I apparently don’t live in a small enough town. Where I come from, we parent our children. We don’t expect the community to be perfect and we teach them the difference between right and wrong. If we had something like this in my area, I would have to explain to my children what it is and why but that’s all part of being a parent. When you live in a capitalist society, you don’t get the right to tell people how to make a living.

Bull Crap. This is (or was) a free country.
You should be able to put whatever business you want to where ever you want to unless there is a law or ordinance against it. If the wonderful people of this town didn’t like it, they didn’t have to support it by going there. If you don’t like an activity, don’t participate.

If you don’t like what you see on TV, you change the channel, and don’t support the sponsors of the programming. You don’t go and burn the station down.

first of all, we seen those topless woman the day we were born. it’s just a matter of time most folks think that this is a wrong view. what if this was a beach in europe? afterall, they do allow the ladies to go topless. what is the difference? i bet this owner had check into making a good business despite the small town. he probably had signs on the window stating that it was a topless coffee shop. there probably was blinds or something like that to prevent go-byers not to blindly see.

it’s not a bad idea… at least it was not initially promoting alcohol.

I wonder how he laid his hands on $200,000 to build the place? Usually restaurantuers have some financial backing, like a bank loan; banks always require insurance. But if this was his own money, then he left his only assets completely exposed. and people actually believe they can’t afford insurance? No one can afford to NOT insure their assets; makes no sense. We haven’t heard the last of this, especially if it’s arson; don’t they have an crime victim’s fund in Maine?

Stat Guy – I wonder how the owner and 5 other people could live in this motel and not know it was on fire – only catching it as it goes all the way to the ground. Now there aren’t any silly code violations preventing him from building his strip joint just like he wanted THE DAY AFTER he talked to an official about it.

First, he should still have been open at 1 a.m.-..some of LIKE a late nite cup of coffee.
And he probably had the guys there for the feygala crowd
I would LOVE the place..-but then I love coffee AND boobs !
-And this town ( & state ?) reminds me of Philadelphia, Mississippi !
What a bunch of hypocrites !

And you know; the same cabal of guys (and gals) who complained about it probably had to “leave early for work” but were sneaking in the joint for that second cup of java !
Last, ( and sure; this is political)any asserted lack of morals by the owners is far, far less of a perceived or real injustice, when compared with one who committs late term abortions !

Ellie, to a lot of people, freedom means very little. To Matt and others it only means the freedom to do anything they want, any time. Freedom to speak is a fundemental right in this country. If you don’t like their speech, don’t listen. I would really hate to see a shop like this is my small home town. If for no other reason than I think it’s degrading to women. That’s the reason I would never go to a Hooters, besides their reputation for poor food. I was in a Playboy club for a business meeting when they were operating years ago and found the atmosphere depressing. Young women in little clothing being stripped mentally by idiots staring at them. I really don’t think this coffee shop was the founders idea of perfect freedom. I certainly wouldn’t stand outside and protest it being in my town, but I would never go there. Freedom of speech, try it sometime when it applies to opinions other than your own.

Your comparison of a Christian lady expressing her views to Moslem extremist is pretty warped. When was the last time you heard of a Christian mom running planes into a building, blowing up a ship or executing a reporter? I am sick and tired of everyone except Christians being able to say or do anything they want and society accepts it as tolerant. Let a Christian express a view and the crap hits the fan.
