I just hope the insurance agents have signed “Flood Insurance Rejection” forms sitting in their client’s files.
As for the restraunt owner, you’d think that after being flooded once before(flood induced sewer backup), he would’ve purchased a flood policy covering his interest in the business.
Now my tax dollars are going to bail out those property owners who were flooded???
Stupid – Why would anyone buy a product when they can get the benefits free of charge. No low interest loans, no, give them free money. Will they ever buy flood insurance?
Couple things to consider..
1) He may not have thought that he needed it prior to the first loss.
2) If it was less the 30 days from the initial loss till the second loss he wouldn’t have had time to obtain coverage due to the built in waiting period.
3) With the NFIP currently having issues of being extended by congress… would coverage even have been available to get?
Perhaps the elected officials would provide better service to ALL their constituints rather than just the few who get a handout from other taxpayers if they publicized the availablity and need for subsidized Federal Flood insurance. The government does not have money, these official are really advocating taking money from the prudent and giving it to the imprudent. Florida CIC
This is the most “reliable” democratic party voting state. Why exhibit common sense to either move or buy flood insurance when their elected representatives can steal it from those who do manage their finances and lives.
We have a generation now in power that has grown up looking for hand outs. So it just stands to reason that they would be looking for another free lunch. Why should they actually pay out of their own pocket (for insurance) when they can get the taxpaying suckers to pick up the bill? Of course, we could take this back even further to the landowners that twisted the politicians arms to build in a flood zone so they could maximize their own bank accounts. This is just status quo “rip off the system” attitude. I’m angry with all politicians and intend to cast my vote against every incumbent. I sure hope others join me in this reaction to the outrageous political shananigans that permeates politics from top to bottom.
The restaurant is in a Special Flood Hazard Area (zone A7). Dude should have purchased flood insurance as soon as he obtained a financial interest in the property. Instead he and “Rhode Island Officials” say they need other people’s money.
Interesting info Burt. In which case I’m seriously surprised that 1) the owner of the structure didn’t have coverage and 2) that the lease agreement didn’t require the leasee to obtain flood insurance while the premises were occupied.

Who’s the stupid one?

Grants don’t have to be paid back. So…we get to pay for them at a Federal level instead of a local level. Gotta love politicians!

See the related article about Connecticut. At least they are offering low interest loans. Hmmm.
