In Arizona, DMV electronically matches registrations against insurance records, and this seems to work without installing cameras. Of course, our system doesn’t catch autos not registered.

How about Jaywalkers? There’s another 10 15 million, and can this be expanded to id those without health coverage? Surely those without auto coverage cannot afford health insurance – that ought to be worth another 50-60 million? I’ll bet Ed can find enough money enforcing big brother laws to make the illegals wish they never left South America and to drive US citizens to become illegals in South America.

The vast, vast majority of people who do not buy auto insurance don’t have enough to buy it. When I was young and stupid I drove without auto insurance because I could not afford $100 a month for liability only, minimum limits. (1980, clean record, FYI).

So they are already pretty much broke and are probably sucking from the federal/state/county teat already. Now we spend millions to set up a photo system so we can fine those we already have in subjugation?

Morons. I hope somebody thinks this through. Maybe the governors & state college football coaches should stop having large security details, that would save money.

    Morons.

Yes, there are MANY morons, so it seems. However, driving without insurance makes you a lawbreaker in most states. It is expensive for a youngster, but driving is not a right, but a privilege. So I bought insurance or I didn’t drive. Much agreement, however, on dollar-wasting by the bigwigs both in government and big business—they are much the same in that they try to share our wealth!

just wait until your vehicle is impounded when you DO have insurance – all because your policy is in the name of wudchuck and someone at the DMV spelled your name woodchuck. Then come back and tell me how good the systems is working.

first of all driving w/o insurance is against the law in ALL states. problem is the manpower to get DMV to do followup on vehicles w/o insurance. why do they have to pay an outside source to create the extra windfall of money? you could have a walking police with an application on their ipod, punching in vins or lic numbers. if a vehicle is parked on a public road and not a private driveway, that vehicle had to be driven. ticket shall go to the owner of the vehicle for not having insurance. on every single stop by the police, they should be checking for that as well, that would sometimes generate 2 tickets if the owner of the vehicle was not driving, because the driver is also responsible to know if there is insurance on a vehicle. start impounding vehicles like they do in TEXAS for not having insurance. SUSPEND license! this will have a huge affect on more than just a budget deficit but also help the insurance by keeping rates low, because it’s finally enforced. i think most folks don’t realize that driving is a priviledge and not a right.

My wife was hit by an uninsured driver. I fully support enforcement of the law – that drivers should be insured.
There are two sides to every story… those who drive without insurance and those who are adversely impacted by their behavior. People should wake up and remember why having insurance is a law in the first place. Whatever the enforcement solution, drivers should have insurance.

no one is questioning or disputing that anyone who owns/drives a motor vehicle should have insurance. The means of enforcement is what is in question.
