that is a good question, because i bet even the insurance did not have enough to cover that amount… much, that the jury awarded the amount w/o probably the knowledge of $$$ available… she won’t have to worry about working and the lawyer, will put more money into his lovely house and cars!
Anyone in this country illegally should be deported. I applaud the state of AZ for it’s effort. This case uncovers another problem caused be illegals: lack of insurance to pay for damage they cause. The burden shifts to tax paying American citizens to clean up the illegals mess. America needs to wake up and realize it’s dying a “death of 1,000 cuts”. Too much money and resources leaving our economy.
Maybe there was Liquor Liability coverage in place for the “restaurant” – if not the agent for the restaurant would have been sued also, and the agent’s professional liability insurance would respond. Maybe the restaurant owner was “new” to the USA and didn’t have or didn’t buy insurance. A lot of unanswered questions here, but all arising out of a country-wide problem of illegal immigrants.
Most of the illegals out here in Arizona don’t have car insurance. They jump through hoops when getting a car and drop the insurance as soon as they get tags for a year. If they do get into a wreck it’s hit and run.
this is fairly big news in my neck of the woods. Apparently, the driver had been served as many as 12 drinks at the restaurant before he left.
An illegal Mexican. This case is just another reason to close the borders. I’d bet there was little or no insurance on the vehicle.
If the illegal has been deported and the restraunt is gone – who is paying the claim? The restraunt insurce company at the time this happened?

it’d be interesting if the owner of the bar/restaurant was an illegal!

If the illegal is deported and the restaurant is closed and maybe uninsured, she will never see a penny unfortunately.
